In QLD there's a diving medical you need to past. I don't remember what it cost. The other hidden costs included the purchase of a knife and a flag.
It might not be the same in NSW.

Did my open water PADI back in uni(-10yrs ago) and had to do a special health check before allowed to take the course. Some health conditions can restrict diver's ability and safety, such epilepsy and asthma(I thnink). Only certain GPs can do the dive health check.
Flag = dive sausage…? A sausage is a plastic tube that is used when the diver is at the surface to indicate the diver's position to the dive boat, reducing the risk of losing contact when air, light or sea conditions decrease the visibility of the divers from the boat = aka emergency buoy.
Which then you can use the sausage to feed the skipper as a fee for rescuing you… :p

This sounds like a good deal, when I did my PADI open water diver course years ago I think it was a bit over $300.
Keep in mind that if you don't dive you will need to do a refresher course every year or so (can't recall how often).
The refresher course is optional, once you get the cert it's for life.
yeah it's a pretty good damn deal i have to say. but unfortunately am located in Adelaide :(
Thats a great deal. I paid a lot more when I got my certification and I didn't even get the mask/snorkel/fins. Just bought this for my wife
I just bought a second one because even if you have Open Water certification, you can use the voucher for the other dives like deep dive and shark dive!

It says its done through Sydney underworld and they do it for free anyway. So all you're doing is buying a mask and flippers.

Yes you can use it on their other courses. Since OW is free anyway, it might be better to get your OW without this and then use this voucher for their other dives eg the shark dive is $180 without flippers/mask/snorkel/boots
The shark dive is $87 now apparently (off-peak). Plus $17 for double tank and $50 for other gear
sweet been planning to get ow. been snorkling at great barrier reef and hawaii. good stuff.
