Baby Pram around $300 mark

Hi
I am in the market for a primary Pram for newborn baby.
I did some reserch and found that i can either get a bassinet type or newborn - 20kg one.
forward/ rearward facing. all terrain / walking pram.
I admits its so confusing.
One thing i know for sure is that I need a lot of space in the bottom to put baby stuff and occasionally a grocery bag.
So ATM my options are.

Steelcraft agile(Toysrus) - $330
3 wheel pram (Kmart) - $99
bugaboo cameleon (2nd hand)
Steelcraft Fast Fold (Big W) - 299

I am willing to look for some high end, second hand ones if needed (wife doesn't like it though).
Please share your experience on what you think is a must have in a pram.
and which one you have and/or recommend.

We have city select and it is good, large storage and can fit two seats. But it is around $700 marks, it is for baby.

    • I do like the city select & bugaboo cameleon but then i have to buy second hand. wife really doesnt like the idea for hygiene reasons. cant win there.

      • We are going thru this at the moment too. The bugapoo is well designed and great quality. i suspect it will last through many children and plenty years of use

+1 to the City Select. Do it properly first time round, and it will last you through for a while. Have pushed that thing around Royal Shows, taken it on holiday, hasn't missed a beat!
And can still re-sell it for maybe 50% of purchase price!

  • Make sure it fits in your car boot. That is a primary concern.

Aldi do very good prams for about $150. It has lasted years and had a baby seat that clips off/on.

Perhaps look for second hand prams as well.

    • Boot space is not an issue at this stage.
I will look for aldi ones though they have nothing on at the moment.

I presume its there home brand that you cant get outside!!

      • I believe Aldi re-badged an existing pram.

  • City Mini..
Folds/unfolds easily, very light, pretty compact, easy to push and is reasonably stable for a "3 wheeler" (thanks to the double front wheel).
And can be had on sale within your budget.

    • Another vote for the City Mini.
Though your wife really needs to get over her "no second hand policy." There are zero real world reasons that you can't reuse baby stuff. Viruses/diseases usually have a less than 24 hour survival rate outside the body.
It will save you hundreds in the long run.
Our City Mini was actually the only baby thing we purchased new :)

Yeah, when you see your kid crawling around stuffing their hands and anything else into their mouths, being worried about the hygiene of secondhand stuff is laughable!

  • Thanks, this virus thingy is a good tip.
I guess i will be tossing between Select and Mini now.

Can those two be used with newborn or do I have to buy another attachment to it (bassinet or something)

    • They lie flat… I'm not particularly knowledgeable on this stuff, but I assume that's sufficient for a newborn.

    • City Select - $630 Posted, plus you'll need the bassinet kit. These are the 2016 models with black frame. Have a look around at local prices, and secondhand prices, you'll find they're generally $900+.

Compare the price to used models, and you'll be able to re-sell your new one for a similar price.

Do Phil & ted still make prams? I had one for #1 & #2. Sold it as we thought that was enough but then had #3 and just used a $20 kmart stroller. #3 doesn't show any development delays (actually exceeds).

    • Lol.

    • Thats it, i am buying that stroller.
I'll buy it off the same store just to be sure.

Whatever you are buying, definitely make sure you have physically pushed it, taken the accessories/seats on/off if they need to be removed for transit, and folded the thing up, carried it, and put it back up again. You'll be amazed how awkward some of them are to handle.

    • Especially if u have a petite wife. I see tiny women lifting heavy prams into suv cars that they can bearly see over. Something u may not consider at shiny pram showrooms.

  • Did some reserch over the weekend.
    Here is what i found
I really liked Steelcraft Agile/Agile Plus.
    which is under $400.
I saw Mothers Choice ebony for $230 in Big W but they didnt have it on display. So cant say its good or bad.
    is anyone using this ?

City Select - too big for one child.
City Mini - seems overpriced with no real benefits (as boot space is not an issue).

Unless some agile users can point out any negatives, I think i can live with it.
    Thanks.

Boot space is ALWAYS an issue!!!

The Agile looks OK. Make sure you take one for a push around the store.

      • it steered OK in store. although not sure how hard it can get when its loaded.
I will keep an eye if anything else comes.
        Thanks for all your feedback.
