just for my curiosity, if people are using Nespresso Compatible coffee pods not using Nespresso pods, why should they bother buying a Nespresso machine when they can buy other brands for less than half price of a Nespresso machine?

superior design and functionality, quality, reliability, longevity and consistent sustained steam pressure.
generally you get what you pay for.

I disagree. I have the cheap woolworths caffitaly one and it has a good design, has served me reliably every day for over 3 years or so and is consistent and always gives good results. I also like the taste better than nespresso. I have tried numerous nespresso pods and I really prefer the caffitaly.

        • Got the Latissimo+ 4 years ago from the deal:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77900

It has the auto milk frother.
Still going strong - operates pretty much like new with minimal maintenance and designed for easy cleaning.

        • @hugh: I have a slightly earlier latissima and it stopped puncturing holes in the capsules properly after about 5 years use. I sent it in for repair, the cost to repair a good machine might be the same as the cost to buy a new cheap one, but I don't mind. At least now with that service I might get another 10 years out of it, as they put a new part in, different colour to the original.

        • @hugh: my latissima+ just broke its around the 4yr mark. It leaks and sprays water from the top and does not punch holes on all the pods. I opened the machine up and there was a hairline crack one the cup that holds the caps.

$.50 a pod when they're regularly $.37-.40 everyday at my local. Meh.

COR80 your comment is appreciated, however, are you able to find any tea flavour for Nespresso at your local? If yes, let us know the price. Thank you.

    • +4

I don't drink tea, comment was about your advertised coffee pods costing at least 20% more than others (and I'm not locked into buying 100 at a time).

  • There are coffee and coffee. Ours comes from Turin, Italy. Quality is a parameter that must be considered too.

    • +3

It could come from Italy and still taste like shit.
Sorry, but it's all a matter of personal preference.

Now if you sent out free samples… that would be a deal.
      Otherwise this is just advertising.

    • +2

yeah if quality is a parameter then you wouldn't bother using Robusta beans and Arabica only…

Honestly there are many arguably better nespresso-compatible options available at my local Coles…. not only are they competitively priced, you also dont need to purchase bulk lots either.

      edit -

For the uninitiated, here's why Arabica beans are better than Robusta:
      http://theroasterspack.com/blogs/news/15409365-10-difference…

      This was said about robusta:

The most commonly known: Taste. Often Robusta has its taste described as burnt tires or rubbery, which… sounds disgusting (can you imagine one of our taste swatches on the front page being a burnt tire?). Why the bad taste?

OP, i find it interesting that you're actively highlighting how much robusta content is in your pods. I'm all for transparency, but this can't be good for business…

I prefer my coffee from India, Kenya and Ethiopia

  • We gave out over 200 free tasting packs already.

      'allegedly'.

If these samples weren't offered on OzBargain then it likely didn't happen.

I have Nespresso machine, and yes I am not super happy with Nespresso coffee pod. But I do not want to commit to 100 coffee pods I have not tried before

    • Woolies stock a few different brands you can try.
They are generally on sale as well.

    • Years back I bought Nespresso Compatible posd on Deal of the Day. A set of 100 capsules. 95 ended up in the bin.

  • Op, don't take these comments the wrong way - just that people unfamiliar with the brand would not be willing to risk it, especially with such a large quantity, as there are a lot of bad compatible brands around.

At the same time, if there was a way to sample or buy smaller quantities, I'm sure people would be a lot more open to trying them.
