Sennheiser HD558 over-Ear Headphones $170.25 (+ $14.95 Shipping) @ Harvey Norman (Clearance)

70

Clearance item so many stores are out of stock. I just picked up the last one in Malaga WA store. Shipping should work if there's none close to you.

Not the lowest it's ever been but it's a good $30 better than anywhere else at the moment, even online. For over-ear open headphones it's the best you'll do in this price range.

  • Gawd these are as low as US$80 on Amazon US.

Theyre currently US$100 on amazon. And don't ship this model internationally. Adding shipping costs would bring it up to ~170AUD anyway.

You can get the rival headphones Audio Technica AD700x shipped from amazon though. They don't end up much cheaper.

    No it isn't.

I'm afraid he is right, the bass sounds muddy.

Individual preferences may vary but these headphones are widely well-regarded by critics and the audiophile community.

"The no-frills Sennheiser HD 558 is easily one of the best-sounding headphone pairs available in its under-$200 price range"

If it's actually not the best in the price range then I'd invite you to suggest alternatives instead of just booing it :)

Alternatively, most people on the internet have no idea what they are talking about, repeat third hand feedback they read someone else on the internet post one time and have little to no basis for comparison.

(and that's ignoring the fact that you quote a review from PC Mag)

Personally, I think most Senns are boring headphones which don't excel at anything. And the cheaper ones are decidedly below average for the price bracket. For $170 open phones, give me a set of AD700/900s or (maybe if you get lucky) k701s (or, even better, used DT880s) any day of the week.
