  • I rented a SIM card at the airport, not cheap. But trying to buy one would've costed more.

    • I call BS. Bought one at the airport from a convenience store for not much at all.

  • +1

make everyone skype and whatsapp you
    free wifi everywhere

  • Yes free wifi everywhere, and buying at airport easier then going to a mobile shop and asking (not many adults speak English)

    • The thing is im arrived in inchoen 9.30pm from japan. I did some research most of convenience store are closed 9 pm or 9.30pm..

I know not many english speaker, i think japan has more because japan is amazing country for travel from culture, shopping,

  • Just stay in the south.

  • Korean cosmetics and skincare is really cheap there, no surprise given the intense pressure to look good. Myeongdong is a great place for shopping, nice mix of clothes/cosmetics. Lots of restaurants and some street stalls too.

    • Thank you for the idea, im so appreciate it..

Which hotel did u stay in myeongdong?
Gangnam is also good place to stay,,, ahhh im confused

      • I stayed at the shilla which is close to dongdaemun. Tip: the airport is serviced by buses that drop you off at various hotels. Makes it really easy to get to and from the airport.

  • You probably won't be able to take your phone if you go to north korea.

    • You can but they might confiscate it for use on the next rocket launch

    • They don't mind. You can buy sim cards at the airport in Pyongyang for data/calls. Gotta snapchat the whole trip somehow.

      Sorry mate…
I never have any plan for travel in north korea …

  • Seoul has pretty good public transport system similar to Brisbane and Sydney. so it wouldn't be a big matter wherever you stay in Seoul.

    • +1

"good public transport"? "Sydney"? I see you're from QLD.

    • +1

"good public transport"? "Brisbane"? I see you're from NSW.

    • Actually im not really like sydney public transport since the mess in cbd george st, before it was very access on george st, now you need your strong feet for cross george st. But im sure after they finish it, it will be better (still years to go)

  • Is anyone know, which apps should i have which is helpful in seoul?

  • 1,You can rent a wifi equipment instead of sim card in airport, if you have whatsapp.
2,You can choose to stay in dongdaemun/ myeongdong. The 2 places are not far from each other. Gangnam is a little far away.
3,When you are in seoul , you can shop in myeongdong.
4,Google map is useful and you won't get lost.

      1. I have whatsapp, do i have chance to get one? If im arrived 9.30pm ? Whats time the shop closed in the airport ?

      2. Do u have other offline apps instead of google? Like subway timetable etc?

      Thank you very much

      Appreciate it

  • When my girlfriend came to Korea with me, I stayed in near the Coex mall in Gangnam. It's slightly expensive, but the hotel manager and their service was one of the best. That said, as a place for tourist place, I kinda think that place was bit out of the place and expensive. The place was lovely for shopping and stuff though. That said, as long as you stay near the 2nd Subway line in Seoul, you will not have much problem getting to place in Seoul (plus taxis are dirty cheap compared to Australia).

I am sure you wouldn't need one but KakaoTalk in Korea is like the app that people use for communicating (think of Whatsapp but with far stronger influences). If you are going to make friends there, downloading it would probably help.

Jeju is very tourist-y place, I wouldn't recommend shopping there. Seoul and Busan probably is better. I can't remember much of Busan because last time I've visited there was when I was a baby (I might've visited there after that but you get the idea). That said, I did hear that Busan has fair bit of Japanese influence (at least so I've heard from my girlfriend, she told me that she was able to get by using Japanese and English).

    • I dont have plan shopping in jeju, just travel and relax in jeju…
      Hahaah

Korean love everything which are made in korea, kakaotalk is the one of them…

Thank you for the reply and the advice

      • If you want to know why Kakaotalk became a big thing, there were not many services that were competing with it at the time, even less if you count ones that was specific for Korean market and even less if you look at something that was free at the time. It's crap, but it was one of the forerunners in Korea and thus everyone uses it. Are you going to say Americans love what's made in America because they use Facebook?

        Anyways, enjoy your trip.

  • Good choice to visit Korea. Great place to be. I was there for a couple months. loved it.
The metro is really easy to use. There's english everywhere. Bus is a bit harder.

where can i get the sim card in korea (data sim card) ?

There are only a couple sim cards which you can get as a tourist. I'd get an Olleh sim. Go into one of their larger stores, and there'll be someone who can speak english. Surprisingly, their sim cards take a long time to sus out so plan some time for that.

which area should i choose to stay in korea around dongdaemun/ myeongdong/ gangnam?

I'd recommend MD because it's so central to everything. Gangnam is more pricey. I dont know too much about Dongdaemun.

any recomendation place for shopping? i'll stay in seoul, jeju and busan for few days (clothes, gift, etc)

Seoul: shopping in Gangnam's street stalls, Myeongdong's street stalls and shops. Gangnam also has a lot of nice stores. Lotte Department Store at Jamsil isn't un-similar to a bigass David Jones
Busan: I didnt do much shopping there. I spent more time looking around, and treking around. If you're into walking, there's a really cool disused train track where you can walk along near the coast.
Jeju: korean bbq ith jeju pig :D

    Other:
download the Korea subway app: iOS / Android
download offline maps and install Seoul maps. I used CityMaps2Go
download Kakao talk. everyone there uses Kakao.
Wifi is sorta everywhere. on the streets, there isn't so much wifi, but when you walk into a cafe/fast food place/department store, then you have free wifi.
Go easy on the soju. it hits you all at once

    • Thank you so much with all of reply

my bad just login this account today…

especially for the apps, those are amazing apps…

have u try delivery food service?(i think it hard to order by phone) My korean friends told me it delicious delivery food and very cheap…

  • Stay in GANGNAM because it has more STYLE.

    • +1

      Thank you PSY
im waiting for your next single

  • Don't forget a Chinese Visa if you want to go fishing and becareful visiting any of the islands!
Also, on the way there, looking out the aircraft window, if you see an American fleet heading that way plan to go somewhere else pretty quick…
