2012 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz $69 (RRP $100) from Dan Murphy's (Membership Required)

190

Seeing as I work for a rival wine supplier, this doesn't happen often, but picking up 2012 St Henri for $69 a bottle is an absolute steal! In my opinion, the best Penfolds product outside of the Grange and a truly stunning vintage. I don't know how long this is running for as I just got it emailed to me, but i strongly suggest pouncing on it and at least grabbing a bottle. You will not be disappointed!

better value with the 8% off cash back + 10% off WISH card discount. Brings the price down to around $56.60.

Edit: Looks like it was a 24 hour only offer!

    • In store at Big W they had 10% off the BigW cards but they also are able to be used at Woolworths affiliated stores

      • Currently available or from a few weeks ago?

      • I saw it over the weekend, but that may have been store specific, sorry I don't have more info

  • as a scotch drinker i really struggle with this… are wines like this really worth the $$ ?

    • +3

      Not sure what you mean.

      Do you mean:
"As a cheap scotch drinker I can't understand why someone pays so much to get drunk?"

      or

"I drink expensive scotch for the taste, but cannot understand why others would choose expensive wine for the taste".

I presume you are the first one because the second one doesn't make sense.

To someone who likes fine food and wine experiences, it is well worth the money.

I earn money to buy enjoyable experiences, and I find fine wine, savoured over a meal and usually over several hours (and several nights) is well worth it for a treat.

But if you buy alcohol to get drunk then it would be a waste.

      • yes if u buy alcohol to get drunk, then u may as well get the cheap nasty stuff and drown it with fizzy drinks..

however any regular scotch drinker can point you to some really decent scotch drinks in the $60-$70 range. eg glen grant 10 y/o (winner best single malt <10 years) which costs <$60

and similar to what you mentioned, u can enjoy this over several hours and nights

i drink wine regularly as well but to be honest have not spent more then $40-50 on a bottle and havent found the same level of appreciation & enjoyment as i do with scotch..

Basically these are cellaring wines.. the theory behind this (wouldn't know because the longest a wine lasts in my house is like 2 days) is to store them and it improves in taste + value. A lot a traders exist online which basically just buy and sell vintage wines…ridiculously expensive sometimes ..but hey why bother, am I right? Alcohol is made to be enjoyed, so bottoms up!

It really needs to be cellared for a few years to be rewarded. I had a couple of bottles opened of the 2010 last year and it really was way too early. Great price for cellaring though if you're patient.

    • ….they're about $120 a bottle through Langton's auctions. Oops.

  • Great post. Got a sixie for ron.

  • seems click and collect is no longer available in melbourne

  • Used to be Dicks eneloops deals every where…..now it's Dan's deals everywhere.

Ozbargain is really making me poor.

  • Cracker of a price.
