Mazda BT50 4x4 Utility GT (Auto)

Hey everyone; just showing my Boss the power of this community :)

He's in the market for a Mazda BT-50, and was wondering if anyone has some inside information on pricing?
He's the type of guy who wants all the cameras, canopy, and all the jazz.

Anyone out there have some inside Mazda info? Who has the authority to give the cheapest deals?
How much margin is in accessories vs. the cars margin?
Any 'Loss Lead' extras he can demand on site without inflating the price?

I'm not a 'new car' kind of guy, I'm a 90~2000's sports car kinda guy; so any help is appreciated :)

avoid the BT-50/Ford Ranger, there are major mechanical problems. I now someone that is on the third diff replacement within a few years of purchase.

    • Are these 'major mechanical problems' wide spread or just isolated to the 'someone' that you know with the diff problem?

The BT-50/Ranger would not be selling as good as they are if they all suffer from major mechanical problems.

    • i saw a brand new looking BT-50 one on the side of a road with his bonnet up not to long ago. not sure if that's something your boss would wanna hear but it might prove the comment above.

the last 2 cars i've brought were based on internet pricing. i generally look at the cheapest on carsales.com and would offer them 5k less and start working up from there. it's also good to know how much the accessories are worth so you can include it in the price. basically when you are at the sales desk get them to quote with all the accessories you'd like and they offer them what you think the car is worth with all those accessories. if he's after a specific colour then i would suggest stating that clearly, as some newbie sales dude tried to f me over by writing a list of ideal colours i would like not telling me that he would pick out the only colour they have in stock for me to buy. both of my vehicles have been undriven demo's with less then 20klms on delivery. if you can get a demo where they can start the rego on the day of pickup then that would be a bonus. my first purchase in 2013 was one of those. saved about 4k on that car. one most important thing is to remember the car sales person is not your friend even though they smile and act like it. also be prepared to sit at the sales table while the sales guy goes in to the managers office to have a coffe/yarn while you waste your time sitting there for them to come back and say sorry can you go a bit higher. if you really want a good deal be prepared to get up and say you'll go else where, which i did to 3 dealerships. it really comes down to how bad you want the car and how much you're willing to pay for it.

      • That's actually a very good bit of advice, thank you!

  • Please keep us up to date with this. I'm doing research and about to begin negotiating on a BT50 as well.

RRP on extra -cab is $32,990 (Add basic alloy tray Mazda RRP $2023) puts total at $35,013
Spoken to a couple of people and they got theirs for $30,000 to $30,500 so that's $5000 off already. They said they didn't really negotiate much either, more so just went in and said what's the best price possible if I buy today and probably could have gone lower if they cared enough to negotiate.
