Getting The Most out of QFF Points

Quick Background on me:
School teacher, very expensive to travel during school holidays.
I recently earned 75K QFF points through Hunter80's deal.

Any Qantas / Jetstar deals that come up cant be claimed due to inability to take time off during school term and block out dates, which makes spending QFF points on flights ineffective.

I know that gift cards are a poor way to spend points, however i have compiled the following list (with poor maths) of value of points / $, that dont look too bad.

Example Syd to Hob Oct2016 - 132.5 points/$

*Myer card - 173
*Apple watch - 159.85
*Caribee carry on bag - 176
*Paklite Escape Trolley Duffle - 235
*Russell Hobbs Heritage 4 Slice Toaster - 152
*Apple iPad pro 12.9 - 143.85
*Fitbit Blaze - 133.53

Note This is a list created over a couple of months and prices may have changed up and down

My real question is about what OzBargainers spend their hard earned QFF points on?
What have you found to be great Value?
What advice can you give me to make the most out of my points?

  • If you can only travel in peak times, classic rewards give good value, they are just hard to find.
You need to search 364 days in advance. Actually, I think some of the partner segments turn up later, but you need to be on the ball and diligent to find the good rewards fairs.

The other rewards value is on routes with little competition, where the points give good value. A few years ago we were looking at flights to south Africa,as an example in this case.

    Hi.

Definitely use your points to redeem for award flights, as they represent much better value than giftcards or physical items from the Qantas store.

I actually just wrote a post on the four best ways to use 56,000 or less QFF points just a couple of hours ago on my new blog. This might help give you some ideas. See: https://thechampagnemile.com/2016/06/25/four-of-the-best-way…

With any award flights, it's important to book as far out as you can (most airline seats open up around 330 days out from travel).

  • I am concerned if your maths is poor and that you are a teacher

      Teacher?

Teacher is a strong word… Facilitator of learning is a better example of what I do

Another option, you can donate QFF points to charity. This is a win-win for everyone: the charity gets money, you get a big smile, and Qantas gets to claim a tax deduction.

If you donate cash to charity you can claim a tax deduction off your own income, but if you donate QFF points to charity then QANTAS claims the deduction?

      Sounds like win-lose to me.

      • Sounds fair, since Qantas is the one paying the charity. Don't forget that big smile for being awesome! 😊
