Best value 1x AA LED torch

I have a Nitecore 4x AA torch and it's everything I hoped and more. My kids love torches and last time the power went out, I had to give them halogen torches and they were not impressed - neither was I. Can anyone recommend the best value torch that runs off a single AA? I'm hoping for something with maybe ~150-200 actual Lumens and under $10, the cheaper the better (since I need to order 3). Wide variety of colours gets bonus points.

A list of torches that takes AA batteries:

top rated torch ($1.89, for black, $2.61 for Gold or Silver)

    • 3 colours, comes with a video proving it's half-decent (although I'll bet it's not a AA battery). Looking like a winner so far. Anything else out there worth paying a bit more for than $2? Happy to pay up to $10 a piece if it's worth it.

Nitecore stuff is generally fantastic, but for value for money I don't think they are great.

If you just want a great value torch for general around the house use, it is very hard to beat the amazing VALUE on offer for under $4. Any of the results from here are available for under $4 posted to your house, are compact, lightweight, and will be perfectly fine for working around the house or to keep in a bag for general use. Similar models are available on any of the direct-from-china websites like at the links above, but some people feel more comfortable on ebay.

The torches with XML-T6 LED's should be significantly brighter than the Q5 LED's, but a single AA doesn't put out a whole lot of power so not sure how much better it would actually be – you can't go wrong with any from this link here either.

More powerful torches are available using 3x AAA's for under $10, but that doesn't meet your need.

    • I'm in the market for something but more powerful for general home use, night bush hiking, under house repairs etc. What are the best deals in the 3*AA ranges?

      • Try this — takes 3AA's

I bought this one a few days ago.. It's far more compact than the above torch, at half the price.
It takes 3*AAA batteries Fairly bright, but the light is a bit cold (blue-ish)

        • If you spend a bit more this one is an alternative (brighter but more expensive) than Scrimshaw's AA torch:

Otherwise, I think Scrimshaw's suggestions are the best you will find for brightness/dollar.

Most torches take 3x AAA because it is a roughly similar size to a lithium battery (18650) - 3x AA battery torches are rare (and similar size to a 26650 battery)

This AAA one is brighter than Scrimshaw's AAA one with a more efficient led (XM-L2) but is more expensive.

And this AAA one is as bright as you will be able to get on AAA's - it may not even be any brighter than the one above on AAA's.

Anything more, and you would need to look at lithium batteries, which will get more power out of all these torches, as well as have longer runtime. But all these torches are plenty bright for most things, even on AA or AAA's.
