  • Any more info about the discount code?
I have tried a couple of dates but i get this:
"We were unable to apply the promotional discount.
Search criteria does not qualify for the discount or the promotion code is incorrect/expired.
You can continue to book using our standard fares."

    • Yeah same error

  • Doesn't work for me.

    • +12

then why did you positive vote?

      • +2

I voted first for the deal, when i searched for tickets it didn't work.

      • Why not vote positively for a deal which you think is good, but doesn't work for your particular route/departure date? I do that all the time.

        • -5

Because its not available for you why positive vote it, I get it if you thought it worked first but it turned out it didn't so you want to revoke it but why still positive vote it if it doesn't?

          /rant

        • +10

@Bearosaurus: Because a good deal is a good deal even if you can't access it. People don't just upvote because it benefits them specifically. This code didn't work for the times I wanted to travel but I still upvoted it because 20% off is a bargain.

        • -5

          @Wampus

It is solely under someones opinion

        • +1

          @Bearosaurus: bazoonga!

        • @Wampus:

Yes I understand if someone thinks this or other deals are good they would positive vote it wether it works or not, I can't really get of that snide comment so this is basically editing what I wrote

        • @Bearosaurus: Upvote is for bargain, but i didn't get bargain thats true, i would have revoke my vote but some of them said they used code and its working, bargain for them.

    Didn't work for me either.

  • cheaper to fly sydney to india (via abu dhabi) than just to abu dhabi. Reckon I can just not catch the flight from abu dhabi to india or will they check my bags and check me all the way through to india?

    • +6

You will get your luggage in india.

      • If a passenger doesn't take a flight, their luggage comes off too. So the luggage will come off at Abu Dhabi if someone decides not to take the second leg to India.

        • LOL, so you are saying that if for some reason(let's say I decide to stay in Abu Dhabi instead of boarding the leg to India, after my final call and after 300-500 passengers and their checked in luggage have already boarded the plane, they are going to find my checked in luggage and give it back to me in Abu Dhabi???

        • @GregFiona:

Yes. That's what majority of delays are from. It's a safety requirement.
That's why you always hear them continually calling for missing passengers, or searching the airport. It's much faster to locate a passenger than to locate checked in luggage.
In regards to retrieving your checked luggage. They know exactly which bulkhold your bag is in, they don't need to go through every single bag.
At an extreme example, what would stop a terrorist checking in a bomb, then not getting on the plane?

          Source - Ex-AME for Qantas.

        • -1

@jayz: My source is my brother who lost the flight a few years back and his luggage arrived to Australia with the missed flight.
Also, in your example, how does this makes things any safer? by the time they realise the terrorist is not boarding the bomb will already be under the seats of 300+ passengers

        • +1

          @GregFiona:

jayz answered correctly. It is a requirement to offload checked bags if a passenger does not take that flight. I also work for an airlines as an operations manager.

        • @danahaha: so my brother's suitcase was sent to Australia by mistake? what if he was a…terrorist?
Also what happens when the luggage travels to destination on a different flight? Or that doesn't happen anymore?
I'm not an expert just talking by experience.

        • @GregFiona:

As you stated it was a mistake and the person in charge of the flight would most likely be in trouble. Any piece of luggage must not travel without the passenger and that's a security policy in aviation standards. If it went through for your brother, then it was obviously a security breach. However some airlines(budget airlines) may not be able to follow all policies in the event of a delay, if they don't they'll get fined. Sometimes if its gone too far, eg. to another airline as you have said, then it's the airline's responsibility to cross check all luggage underneath matches every passenger on board.

    • +1

You will be denied boarding for the return leg as your ticket will be cancelled.

      • +3

Just getting one way ticket. with a day stopover in abu dhabi before the india flight so they dont check me in. That should work shouldnt it?

        • +1

That should work. Even if you had more than a few hours layover you could tell them not to check your luggage all the way through.

        • yes it shouldn't be a problem, I have 6 legs trip originating in EU and I plan not to use the last leg… when I asked about that at etihad (on the way to AU) they told me no problem to cancel the last leg of the trip just if I be so kind to advise them before, which I will do, the return flight is next week :)

        • +1

How much is the price difference? You are running a risk that something will go wrong and spoil your plan. Complications include they might ask you to show your Indian visa before boarding or luggage could go on a separate flight (it happen sometimes) and ended up sending it to India.

        • That will work if you have an actual stop over

  • +1

Code is working when i checked flights in November. Thanks OP.

  • Worked for me. Melbourne - Zurich, dep 19 Nov ret 30 Nov. $2548.72 for two, though not sure if it's on exxy side.

    • -2

      20% off and good airline

      What's there to complain about?

      • I was genuinely unsure whether it was good price. I have no complaints at all.

  • +3

Just testing a few flights, worked for me….more particularly it was only $1053 ex Hobart to Munich……

    • +1

Where does that fly through aside from Abu Dhabi?

      • HBA-MEL-AUH-MUN ($50 more via SYD instead of MEL)

  • Its the same fare offered last month through STA, plus price for ISIC card.

  • +1

Looks like flights need to depart Australia from 27Sep onwards for both legs to get cheaper prices………damn….was looking @ the 2 F1 GP's in late Aug early Sep

Tried to book for a trip in July and got:

We were unable to apply the promotional discount.
Search criteria does not qualify for the discount or the promotion code is incorrect/expired.
You can continue to book using our standard fares.

    Oktoberfest !!!

  • +1

It's $500 discount for my family…huge difference but alas I already booked with Thai

    FML!!

  • +2

Melbourne to Johannesburg for $913! Beats Qantas' advertised sale fare by almost $500!

    • +1

Great price, but flight time is 27 hours vs 14 hours with Qantas. Depends how much you value your time. Qantas or South African sometimes have deals on these fares too.

    Economy: STFECO and business: STFBUS

Prices are roughly the same except that they are in EUR from Europe and AUD from Australia :(

    • Doesn't seem to work when trying NYC (JFK) to Perth. Works the other direction when starting from Perth.

    • Worked for me. $1300 return.

  • +1

Thank you OP. Bought tickets for the relative in Europe. Flying to SYD in December and back - in February. $1300 return. Excellent price.

    • May i ask which airport he/she is flying from?
The lowest i am getting is just under 1200 euros which is about $1700.

  • +1

    Great deal, thanks!

Not much time left but two things we noticed if anyone is still looking:
    1. Some flights appear to be eligible for next year between e.g. 16/01/2017-30/04/2017 (look under "View fare rules" when you find a valid flight — it's hidden in the wall of uppercase text).
    2. Multi-city with a stopover in Abu Dhabi on the way back seems to be consistently cheaper than Abu Dhabi return (e.g. Melbourne to Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich - even if flying in/out of different cities).

Don't forget the Bkk stop over, EG:

Mel to Bkk Jetstar 4/09 $186.35
Bkk to Paris Etihad 28 sep, and
    Venice to Mel 29/10 $823.75

    Just an example guy's.

arghhh… i was checking out the flights to italy just before midnight, and the prices all went up suddenly after 12, the same return flight now costs $350 more per person even with the discount code applied

    • same with me. I even went through the payment process and at the end received "sorry these fares are no longer available" :(

      • i wonder if they are matching Qatar's Euro sale offers which also ended at midnight..
