Todays Aliexpress super deals includes the yeelight for $13.53USD . I am fairly certain that this is the cheapest this has been by a large margin.

This is a e27 bulb which is a screw type pattern. The normal plug in Australia is the b22, you can buy a b22 -> e27 adapter from ikea or online.

NOTE: this may not meet Australian standards.

E27 is pretty standard here in many lamps… most in-built sockets use bayonet though.

    • The popularity varies from state to state.

  • what makes this bulb special? $18 bucks???

    • Controllable with a smart phone. A budget wemo ;)

It makes a high pitch "Yeeeeeee" when turned on

hmmm need to find phone to turn on the light to go to the bathroom at night ….. dohhh phone battery is flat……

    • These type of lights turn on by the socket too. Switch them off and on again. The real purpose is being able to turn them off without getting up, IMO at least.

Thanks OP. I didnt know those smart bulbs exist. 8W and 600 lumens max, control via WiFi. I gave it a try. Let's see how good they are.

Btw, I ordered from here which is cheaper from 2+ qty: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Xiaomi-Mi-Yeelight-L…

    • Only 600 lumens? Most general globes are 900 lumens for reference.

The Bulb is white only. The new generation comes with colors.

How often do you have disco party at home? :)

I have the colored wifi version…..whilst I don't use the blue or green settings, its very handy to be able to use the reds and oranges to produce a nice warm light mimicking a low wattage incandescent globe. Great for bedroom use.

The white only globe offers one level of warmth…..4000k. And 4000k in an LED is very white !

This seems similar to Lifx which is $29.99 USD delivered. LifX has a lot more integration and goes up to 800 Lumen. Had mine delivered today and it is pretty cool :)

    • Cool or warm?

      • You can set it between 2500K extra warm and 9000K extra white (there are 15options)

    • comparing $13.53 to $29.99? well done.

They are different products but similar
For $13.53 you get a bigger size no name globe that can not be as bright (around 60W) equivalent
For $29.99 you get a slightly smaller name brand that goes brighter (around 75W) and has integrations with a lot of other apps such as Logitech harmony, IFTTT and more.

I got LifX because it would fit into my light housing and it is cheaper than most of the competition.

        • Still, comparing $13.53 to $29.99? well done.
And xiaomi is "no name"? Lmfao! No brainer.

    • Cheapest i can find is $39.99 USD delivered

Does anyone know how reverse engineerable these are? I can't seem to find anything on Github/nets in general that indicates people are controlling these outside the app.

    • Unless Xiaomi disclose their source code, you wont be able to. You can always try to disassemble the ipa or apk using tools like IDA pro. What are trying to achieve? Create a giant LED screen controlled from your FPV spectacles :)?

      • I've got an Amazon Echo coming very soon. It doesn't explicitly support Xiaomi lighting (it does have Belkin, Wemo, Samsung, etc) but has a fairly robust API. I was hoping to repurpose any third party efforts into something that would take instructions from the Echo and translate into per bulb messages.

    • I'd imagine it would be easy to do everything using the official app and tasker autoapps.

    • Actually, someone seems to have had luck with sending Bluetooth Low Energy packets via a python script.

  • Is the app in Chinese?

  • I thought all the Xiaomi Yeelight's ran on 220v? Can we use them here if we're 240v?

  • If anyone has received this and is having problems with the mi home app this one seems to work much better:
