100

Jimmy Possum is retiring due to medical reasons. The furniture is very expensive but the hand made, Australian made quality is amazing.

"The MOLLI CHAIR is a smaller but no less indulgent sofa! MOLLI offers structure, support, and a very high level of comfort. Cushioning in the MOLLI is made up of feather wrapped foam, which moulds to the body yet maintains the shape of the sofa. Beautifully constructed in Bendigo with a solid hardwood frame, MOLLI sofas are strong and durable."

Heaps of other items heavily discounted but still expensive compared to IKEA. Jimmy Possum furniture will last a lifetime and you are helping with employment in regional Bendigo, Vic.

    Good quality furniture at a premium price. Sad to see them go, a great Aussie company.

    • Yup. Why bother making stuff when you can import crap, brand it with some exotic name, call it "Designed in Australia" because you chose the colour and still make same margin?
      Conversely, when your neighbour is unemployed and desperate, guess who he robs?

    You can get same if not better quality from a good local furniture maker for much better price. I did.

    • Point the way, hyperlink?

        A friend bought from here and the quality was great so I went here as well and no regrets. You can get anything custom made or just bring in a design from a catalogue etc and they will make it. Hundreds of fabric/leather samples to choose from.

        I went to their showroom on Melbourne Rd in Newport. Worth the drive

    Premium, hand-crafted, and genuinely hideous.

      I respectfully disagree. You have done zero research as to how this company sources its materials and it shows.
      If you were to buy anything with as much quality or passion put into the creation of, you would pay over $5,000 any day.

        If you're an idiot maybe

        Never said it wasn't good quality. It's just grotesque that's all.

      • how this company sources its materials

        How do they source the feathers?

      • +3

        I assume when they say they source materials internationally they mean Asia and most likely China. If it was somewhere great they would name the country or area

        Bendigo Advertiser

        Jimmy the new name in furniture

        Marina Williams
        July 16, 2015,

        AFTER 20 years as Jimmy Possum, Bendigo’s iconic furniture label is rebranding with a new business model to expand online sales.

        The family business will be called Jimmy and source new products made from materials they cannot make locally. Jimmy employs 85 people and jobs will remain.

        CEO Boris Bielert said changes to the business, built on offering Australian-made furniture from new and recycled timber, would not diminish its offering. Quality design and manufacturing processes would remain, with most furniture continued to be made locally.

        “Jimmy will make the majority of its own products from its factory in Bendigo, (and) will purchase some products from external furniture and interiors suppliers both locally and internationally,” Mr Bielert said. “There will be new product lines with world-wide sourcing and selection processes … and continued expansion into international markets.”

        • Doesn't sound like anything to do with "medical reasons".

          @AlexF:

          Read the retirement story linked above

          A number of factors have contributed to the decision to retire the JIMMY POSSUM, but the most pressing is Alan’s recent diagnosis of a recurrence of cancer.

          @TightBottom:

          Above quote is from Bendigo Advertiser - as stated, correctly, nothing about health. Besides, companies have a CEO to run the business, as this one does.

  • Sure its not retiring for not being able to sell anything at ridiculous prices?

    We bought a dining table 13yrs ago at about 8k with 10 chairs.
    It's the most beautiful thing with gorgeous wood. The thing just oozes quality. Anything in the shops today at similar price just doesn't compare.

    Sounds to me like slippin Jimmy is playing possum.
