Needs Help Picking Mid Range Car Audio System - 2015 Corolla

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade the following mid range car audio components (tweeter, front, rear speaker, sub and amp) for my 2015 Toyota Corolla, can anyone give me some suggestion as I don't know what fits to my car?

should I get them from Autobarn as they're doing 20% off this weekend or should I wait for EOFY sale?

Thanks Heaps

  • Your best bet would be to check out Ryda or Nofrills on EBay with the 20% off code

Best site to check reviews on car audio products and to find which item best suits your vehicle is

    • Thanks mate, but as I said, I've no idea what's good, so if you guys can suggest what to get, that would be great :)

  • Changed the head unit yet? Or are you running everything off it?

    • na.. not going to change the head unit.

      should I change it?

      Thanks

      • It'll complicate things, and without proper filters and outputs, probably be a bad idea keeping it. Not sure how integrated it is though.

Put it this way, I wouldn't go spending over $1k on a stereo upgrade on a Corolla and keep the factory head unit.

        • ok, any suggestion for the head unit? thanks heaps spackbace

        • @garylo59:

Not really! It all becomes an expensive exercise tbh.

          Your possible shopping list:

          • Headunit
          • Installation kit for head unit (fascia surround, wiring harnesses)
          • splits for front
          • speakers for rear
          • sub
          • 1 or 2 amps
          • dynamat for front doors (minimum)

So yeah, it rapidly starts adding up lol and you won't get it back when you sell it

  • If you want to future proof your vehicle, this is the Cheapest Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto multimedia headunit going around from pioneer for $647

    • Toyota has made a real bad decision not backing apple or Android :(

  • +2

How do you define mid range car audio? I see mid range being your Pioneer & Alpine level equipment which a full setup would still cost you over $1-2k without installation. Set your expectations up front and factor in everything before you start because there is many hidden costs and you dont want to have a bottle neck. I was an idiot when I was 20 and dropped $15k all up in a commodore, including 9 months self installing.

If you wanted to do a straight swap with the speakers, you need to find out what size they are, either 6.5" or 5 1/4", otherwise you need to do modifications.

Ignore rear speakers and spend more on your front speakers, when you are at a concert the sound comes from the front, plus you will have a sub up the back drowning them out, waste of time and money. For the fronts, try keep the tweeters as close to the kicker as possible to keep it sounding natural, I hate it when people install them next to their head, all you hear is the high pitch and its not in sync with the rest of the sound.

Head units these days have car electrics built in like immobilisers, so again do your research for your model car. If you want to do it correctly, you need one with a solid EQ built it set your staging and control the sub.

I would go with a good low profile 10" sub, get a custom enclosure to fit the car, dont have it floating around your boot otherwise you lose half the space.

A decent 4 channel amp, bridge 2 channels to power the sub and the other 2 to power the front splits.

Dont forget to factor in the cost of wiring, you have to get power/signal to the amp and then back to speakers including all the fuses etc.

    Good luck!

    • thank you so much man.. very detail information, will keep that in mind. :)

  • OP, is your Corolla a hatch or sedan? If a sedan, that won't be a problem as there are double DIN fascia kits to suit. However, if it's a hatch, in about April 2015 Toyota facelifted them and at present, I don't think a double DIN fascia kit is available to suit (yet).

    • mine is the hatch.. thanks Pinzvidz
