Genuine question… how will this pay for itself in savings?

    • I guess that depends how you use it and what you use it with. I'm going to put it on my pet's water bowl. It probably will take a while to actually deliver a cost saving but I more don't want the water bowl running all day & night. Just some basic home automation to mess around with as well.

      • its not waterproof.

actually I'd like to know too.

ie. no use using it to safe on standby power usage if it is … using standby power.

      • I have a $5 timer for that exact reason actually :) I can see other benefits having read later posts. eg turning the oven on before you get home

Don't think it would handle the wattage of an oven?

I put the motion sensor in the Kitchen, and it will detect if someone is in the house.
It hasnt sent me any messages yet (touch wood) as I'm not sure what to do? Should I go home and confront the burglar?

I use the switch for my lamp. Sometime I have to stay back and work overtime, so I turn on the lamp via the app.
So from outside it looks as tho someone is at home.

  • yea what to use it on? maybe a lamp lol..

I use my switch for floor lamps and electric blankets. So I can pre-warm the bed and turn off the light from the bed using only my fone.
But I'm also interested to hear what other combos ppl use theirs for. Also Xiaomi make a similar smart plug that has usb outlets on each plug.

I use a couple of these in my house. One in the main bathroom - I have young children so they can go into the bathroom and the motion trigger will turn on the light for them. The second is in the garage so when I go out or return home the motion will trigger the garage lights.

Once the wemo app is setup you can also turn off your device eg Heater or electric blanket from ANYWHERE , It will actually tell u if its ON or OFF via the app, so handy if you rush out the door and no one else is home and you cant remember if you left your electric blanket or heater on or not.

Its good for setting up as a timer, I set 1 LAMP to turn on in the morning, as I snooze my alarm too often, it makes sure I get up lol, especially in WINTER.

I had a few issues with the wemo app initially, I use a DUAL band modem router, but eventually after a few updates for both the app and the Wemos (It advises that there are firmware updates available and will install them for you aswell), everything works well now. I have a S5 samsung

I have one of this at home, it's great when it's working. Every now and then I need to restart the wemo, as it doesn't want to connect to the sensor or wifi.

But just a reminder, wemo will not work with Apple HomeKit. This is what they wrote back in 2016.

    March 25, 2016

We hear you, WEMO fans. Trust us, we do. We know you really want HomeKit™ compatibility for your WEMO devices and we are sorry that we’ve kept you hanging for so long. But (and there’s always a but, isn’t there?) the short answer is that WEMO will not work with HomeKit in the immediate future. Before you get mad and stop reading, please hear us out:

Right now the only way to make WEMO work with HomeKit is to build a completely separate line of products and we don’t think that makes sense for the overall WEMO ecosystem. HomeKit integration requires a specific hardware component and cannot be accomplished with a software or firmware update to existing devices. Though we have tried to find a work around solution, thus far nothing has fallen within Apple’s HomeKit guidelines. All of this means that no current WEMO device will ever be able to work with HomeKit unless Apple changes its rules. If we were to build new hardware, current users would have to purchase all new WEMOs to get HomeKit compatibility.

Would we make more money if we forced users to buy all new WEMO devices? Maybe, but we would be doing a disservice to the overall WEMO experience that we have worked hard to build. The last thing that we want is to have two separate user experiences – one for HomeKit and one without.

At this point, for WEMO, the benefits of integration just don’t outweigh the challenges. Could this change? Absolutely. But for the time being we have put it on hold. We still love the general trend toward smart home interoperability and will continue to actively pursue partnerships such as working with Amazon Echo, IFTTT and others (stay tuned for a major announcement in May 2016!) that deliver new ways of interacting with WEMO devices, AND make sense for the WEMO brand and our entire community of users. We hope you understand.

  • Fyi also Bunnings sell wemo and I imagine would price beat this. Have 2 wemo bulbs for controlling when I'm away from home to make it look like I'm home, so always looking for good deals to add to the network. Not sure I need this deal but thanks OP

    • Unfortunately bunnings & office works don't seem to carry much of the range any more. I was hoping to price match but couldn't find it elsewhere. I suspect the range might be just about done.

Got a price match of the insight switch at Bunnings last night.

Just got two power-point switches from Bunnings. Unfortunately they were 10c cheaper than Hardlies, so they weren't able to price-match/beat. But, they did beat the price for the motion + switch by 10% - bargain! Came down to $70.56. Thanks Op for this awesome post!

  • Deals end on the 14/07/16 according to the website.
