No Name Head Unit vs Branded

Hi,

I am hoping to fit a stereo head unit in my VZ commodore replace my current head unit that does not have AUX, Bluetooth, USB etc.

I am wondering if there is much different between say a $100 - $150 Sony/JVC/Kenwood/Etc and a $30 'chinese' head unit. I do not plan to include a sub or upgrade the speakers and simply want a head unit that has Bluetooth, USB and AUX.

Best regards,
Josh

  • Your mileage may vary. However I had a cheap unit and it was terrible. Poor radio reception, cracking in the speakers, a real tinney sound, and it didn't properly fit..

  • $88 Sony head unit with all your needs - here
Was 70 something a few weeks ago

    • This particular head unit is rubbish. I had it and it turned my speakers into poo.

      • Hahaha really? Glad I didn't end up getting it.

Shame though, worst thing is buying a new head unit and putting it in to find out it sucks

        • I bought it when it was on sale hoping it would be good. My whole sound system is worth more than my car and this particular head unit made a mockery of it. The Bluetooth call features of this head unit are utter crap. The music equalisers are shoddy and the subwoofer output doesn't have any HPF or gain settings.

        • @niggard:

If the speakers are that pro, why would you have a cheapo deck as the main heart of your system?!

If you go really pro you should be looking at Eclipse decks for best SQ

        • @Spackbace: everything was upgraded haphazardly when I first inherited turd. First came the head unit, then new speakers, then a new amp, and then two new subwoofers and finally more new speakers.

  • Brand name during a JBs sale - all day long. Chinese units don't stand up to the test of time, and certainly won't be the best if you want amp/s and a sub.

Do it right the first time :)

  • agreed with the brand name over cheapies. one advanatge is you can get the universal wiring looms as well.
