Custom Whiteboard

Hi

I want a whiteboard for a few months.
Rather than buy an $80 - I thought maybe try DIY.

I saw a Melamine sheet in Bunnings for about $6.
its 1200mm by 600mm and thats enough for me.

I am wondering how i can put it up on the wall - so it doesn't cause any markings.
as its a temp thing only.
Its quite flimsy so wont rest against the wall and i want it at a height anyway.
Any type of gluey stuff available that wont leave residue?

I cant seem to find it on the Bunnings website though.
But the guy said its melamine and MDF.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Came across the same problem just a few days ago! Those blue tacks were too weak and landlady would be angry if I nailed the whiteboard in. I then tried using these Command Strips which are really strong and don't leave any residue. I price-matched at Officeworks to get further 5% off. You can but larger size for the same price.

  • You can buy rolls of self-adhesive whiteboard material, like ConTact at places like Spotlight and KMart, maybe Officweworks too. You can stick that to some 3-ply for a firm backing. That would work better and be more like a traditional whiteboard than melamine. You can stick stuff to the wall with poster mounts or Command Strips, which are designed to hold things to the wall temporarily, and come off without leaving a mark. Check Bunnings.

Go to the dump and get a piece of glass. Make sure the edges are polished so you dont cut yourself
Perfect as a white board. Just dont drop it

My local ALDI had decent modern looking whiteboards during the week. Pretty big and with a small flip out shelf to hold your pens. Can't remember exact price but was under $20, maybe $18. Was super tempted to grab another one but couldn't justify owning 2.

  • slightly smaller - 600X900 Officeworks, that would be much lighter and easier to attach to a wall

    $22.89

    a lot easier to manage

  • If you're ok with a slightly more….agricultural option, then you can go with laminated cardboard? Once it has the lamination on it, you can then use dry-erase markers on it

We made a big flip calendar using 365 little laminated 10x10 coloured squares (think paint swatches) and it works fantastically

Obviously you're somewhat limited to A3 size, but you can make something look quite Pinterest-y if you feel a bit crafty
