Victoria's Basement: Benzer Citrus Hand Juicer $10

190

I got this to juice my big crop of Oranges.I thought $10 was a good price. I like that it's hand powered so I can have fresh squeezed juice every morning when there is no electricity when we have a zombie apocalypse. when It works well and it is not to hard to wash.

I was about to buy this one few years ago but discovered it's chrome plated, and the plating comes off rather easily, and the plate is too thin (might bend if a hard fruit is used).

Ended up with this one https://www.amazon.com/Nemco-N55850-55850-Easy-Juicer/dp/B00… . It presses so hard that the sweet fruit oil from the skin comes down. Still as new, best money paid. I use it for all citrus as well as pomegranate.

at about 28 times the price

      • If someone is willing to drop ship this to me, I would be happy to run a comparison with the Nemco and report on it here. I can squeeze a combination of citrus over few days, weighing the fruit before and the skin/juice after - have a kitchen scale which is quite precise.

My view is that the Nemco is a better squeezer, gets more juice/oil with less force, can run through more fruit without needing to clean/change container.

+1 for the lol, $278USD + shipping for a hand squeezer. You must take your hand squeezing very seriously.

What exactly is the point of your post? That you decided against buying a Kia, and opted for the Merc S class instead?

      • +1

Actually, he decided against the Benzer and went with the Bugatti Veyron instead ;)

        • @xuqi:
That just seems like so much messing around.
And the view ing of everything and then bags and filters.
Interesting unit, but so much messing around.

        • @xuqi:

For citrus, a hydraulic press is the WRONG type of juicer. It's akin to bringing a truck to a job that requires a simple trolley.

There is a grave misconception that the inside of a citrus is only where the good stuff is. Go about the juicer shops and you shall see peeled oranges (urgh) dumped into the same machines used for celery and carrots. Not only the oils from the skin will be missing, but also most of the pulp as well as a whole a heap of nutrients lost due to the centrifugal separation process.

The only way to enjoy orange juice is through a normal press that squeezes the oil out of the skin along the juice of the pulp - and some of the pulp, something that the hydraulic press cannot do (and it's still an overhyped juicing process with little to show).

So with this juicer, do you pull down to squeeze the juice or pull up? Photos seem to suggest you pull up but that seems very contradictory

  • i have no idea why i just bought this for work….. but thank you anyway

  • +3

but does it unlock all the the nutrients like a NutriBullet or lock them in by squashing the nutrients back into the cell structure and leaves all the super foods stuff behind. ….

    • No, this one mostly keeps the material intact @ the cellular level.

    • Pretty sure this model has the master key….

    • Can't tell if trolling or not…
