Need Help Finding an Affordable Backpack

Will be travelling soon and need some help finding a good backpack that doesn't cost something ridiculous like $300

I would like it to have a laptop compartment as well as enough space to carry enough clothes and amenities for a weekend away somewhere - but it must be able to fit as carry on luggage on the plane

Appreciate any suggestions you guys might have :)

    • I think carrying a weekend's worth of clothes might be a little tough in that

    • This is a great backpack - bought a couple from harvey norman when they were selling them for $19 each. Padded, comfortable. A bargain, I would say. To me, it is big enough to house things for the weekend, but perhaps you are after bigger? Inspect it for size first, if you are not sure.

      • Cheers might be worth a look then

        • Oh absolutely, at $10, I would buy it for general use, even if not for the purpose of weekend away. Sturdy, great backpack.

    • I'd buy one of these but there aren't any stores in Perth where I can pick one up…

  • It really depends on your taste and budget…. You could spend a bit of dough on a quality bag such as THULE and know everything is safe or rely on a budget Kmart bag praying the zips don't burst open… Just some food for thought.

    • I definitely don't want something so budget that rips apart easily. But on the other hand I don't want to pay $300 for one.
I think around $100 mark should do it

  • Amazon Basics <size>" Laptop Explorer Backpack - $25 USD last I looked.

This one is quite popular on OzBargain for the price and colour, they may have 10% off code as well

I've been looking for a large sized backpack. Based on the comments you've posted and the type of bag you need it for (laptop compartment, clothes and amenities, etc). I'm thinking, you'll need a bag that is larger than 30 litres. I currently have a 30 litre Blackwolf backpack but it can't fit many clothes in it. It can carry 2-3 thick medium sized hoodies, if I don't add any other items to the bag. After I add more things to it, it's a tight squeeze but manageable. But I prefer a bag that is slightly bigger and can fit more items.

High Sierra have several bags that are bigger than 30 Litres and have laptop compartments. What size is your laptop? The High Sierra Access 17" Laptop Backpack is the largest with a 45 Litre capacity and is within your budget. That Bagworld website is selling it for a good price at $59. It's $99 at Myer and Officeworks. Myer actually had this bag for sale last night for $59. I was planning to visit Officeworks today to see what it looks like in person and I would've done a price match, if I decided to buy it. But Myer increased the price back to $99. :/

I might order it from Bagworld or a different website. These are the other laptop bags that High Sierra have: Haywire 17" laptop (42 Litres), Zooka 17" Laptop (39 litres), Zoe 17" Laptop (36 litres), Scrimmage 17" Laptop (36 litres), Academy 15.6" Laptop (35 Litres), Vex 17" Laptop (34 litres), Aggro 17" Laptop (34 litres), Neuro 15.6" Laptop (33 Litres), Tackle 15.6" Laptop (31 litres), Emmett 17" Laptop (31 litres), Endeavor 17" Laptop (28 litres).

If you plan to purchase a High Sierra backpack. You probably should visit a store that sells them, so you can see the size of the bags in person and can better decide which bag is the right size to suit your needs/requirements. Or you can take a punt and order online, if that's what you prefer to do.

        • yeah I'm going to visit some shops soon to check out high sierra

Go to a surf shop and check the backpacks there. They'll be good quality and reasonable price.

  • Bigger and only $5 more

    edit: forgot about shipping :P

  • Blackwolf Tempo 40L $94.47 worked great for me on a 10 day cruise. Within hand carry size, light weight & comfy.

  • Osprey porter 46
    Slightly over the budget though

A bit of discussion about the bag on WP http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2353600

  • Have a look at Aussie Disposals - have bought some decent backpacks that have lasted well over 2 years (with lots of useage) for very reasonable prices. Anaconda can also have some great sales as well!

    macpac :)

    • I have one used for years … I mean decade (and half) :-)
Truly lasting! Hardly wore out, just some small signs of wear at the shoulder strap.
