Anything at E3 Got You Excited?

I haven't been following too closely, I usually wait for post-E3 analysis which cuts out all the crap, but if you've seen anything you like share it with the rest of us.

The new Zelda did, but I don't think I'll be getting a Wii U for it. Hopefully the NX has more titles that I'd like to get - Ninty really needs to get back a lot of third party support.

I'd say Zelda is going to be a WiiU/NX crossover title in the same way Twilight Princess was.

Fingers crossed the NX learns from the mistakes of the WiiU. My WiiU has mainly been a dust gatherer.

I was pretty happy the new Zelda looks so different and innovative:

Been playing Skyward Sword with the kids and it's fun, but a lot of it feels 10 years old, not 5.

Skyward Sword was a last ditch effort to make the Wii 'cool' again, as it was released after Kinect and Move hit the scene to a vastly underwhelming response from the market. To many, Skyward Sword isn't a 'real' Zelda game, as it's more linear, focused on a gimick, and sticks to the formula more than most Zelda games.

Nintendo's fascination with holding your hand to the point of tedium is what drove me off it, as Fi seems fit to tell you what monster items are made of every time you pick them up after turning the console off and on again, that your batteries are low, or finding a flimsy excuse to shout at you every other 12 seconds of gameplay.

The new Zelda looks amazing, and I'm specifically trying to see as little of it as possible, but claims of "You can 'finish' Zelda without completing the story missions" and "Dungeons can be done in any order" (I made that one up, but it made an appearence in Link Between Worlds so it's likely to come back again) and the promise of all these different mechanics they've been showing off mean that this can be the Zelda game that Zelda has been working up to for nearly 30 years.

A bit disappointed by Nintendo for not showcasing anything else apart from Pokemon, but at least Zelda doesn't look like it will disappoint.

    • ME:A is something I am looking forward to, too.

      • I'm the only person that loved the Mako in ME1. I'm glad it's back.

        • Hopefully the appearance of the Mako doesn't mean the new Mass Effect is a sandbox/open world game. Too many long standing franchises have played the "I'm like Minecraft too!" card of late and frankly their iterations have been less than appealing.

Of course, they unfortunately all do unbelievably well because they have complimentary marketing.

      What's a Vita?

      sucked in!

  • So am I correct in assuming that there was no real details given for the PS4 Neo?

    • +1

Yep, they said they wouldn't announce anything about it at E3. Focused on PS VR and such instead.

      • +2

Yep. They dont need to. Their catalog and presentation was so strong anyway.

Microsoft didnt need to announce Scorpio either.

As I see it Sony is banking on their $399 VR kit and they said the PS4 normal is fine with VR.

Microsoft is banking on Xbox One S and Windows 10 and Scorpio.

        Two different strategies.

Forza Horizon 3 on Windows 10 at 60fps was the winner for me.

        Also set in NSW.

        • Yeah. The PS4 has an install base of, what, 40M? Sony might be the ones to bring VR to the masses. Interesting to see how it all plays out.

Sony might be the ones to bring VR to the masses.

          No doubt about it.

At the prices Vive and Oculus have set, they certainly won't be.

I'm a hardcore PC gamer, and was ready to drop a huge amount of cash on VR. Even as much as $500, though that's much more than Oculus originally said, or what the (inferior) dev kits cost. But a 1000 AUD? What were they smoking?

Even for hardcore gamers and VR enthusiasts, with a lot of money to burn, it's either PS VR or wait a couple of years until Vive/Rift drop in price.

I'm just glad Sony didn't spend 20 minutes talking about TV streaming this year. The massive lineup of games (Horizon Zero Dawn looks okay, despite the oversaturation of sandbox games of late) means I'll probably get a current PS4 soon, and I have little interest in VR right now so I'll just get a PS4 likely for cheap when the Ps4.5 or Neo or whatever they're calling it rolls around. $299 with Uncharted 4 (AND NO TV BUNDLES, ESPECIALLY STAN) is my buy in point.

I actually like the look of Dragon Quest Minecr-… Builders, despite the fact that I'm not a big Minecraft fan. I like DragonQuest so it's good to see them cash-i…. experiment with the franchise. Scalebound, also, looks rad as eff, and I'm excited to see that come to PC as well. Platinum break off from Capcom and start making a Monster Hunter-esque game, what's that aboout eh?

Also Dad of War. God of War and For Honour experimenting with new perspectives for hack and slash games make me pretty interested in seeing what they can do. Days Gone looks generic as hell, but the horde mechanics and environmental interactivity is at least interesting.

  • Hyped for
Nier Automata (most hyped, gameplay looks gorgeous)
Zelda (not huge zelda fan yet the gameplay convinced me to buy it haha)
    Battlefield 1
    FF15
    God of War
    Spiderman
    Crash Bandicoot remakes
& Pokemon (which didnt need any showing at E3 to get me hooked haha)

  • Horizon Zero Dawn.

Mass Effect, God of War, and whatnot on the reboots. But also the "Detroit: Become Human" game looks interesting.
