Help Me Choose a Competition Prize (Fitbit Blaze?)

Hi Ozbargainers,

I'm looking to run a competition on facebook to try and generate more awareness for my website BargainSpot.com.au

What do you think would make an appealing prize? I'm thinking the prize value around $200 to $500 (and not too expensive to ship). Preferably a product or products that would appeal to both men and women.

My initial thoughts are two Fitbit Blaze (and suggesting that entrants mention the person they would give the second Fitbit to).

You need to know who your target audience is, and cater to them. If it's middle aged women, they won't care about the prize. If it's younger people, they will.

A quick check of your Facebook page shows that, while having 11k+ likes, you're not engaging with them. Most posts barely get any likes or comments, or when they do it's less than 5 of each (though most are showing completely zero!). You need to be engaging with your audience. Pay to boost posts to reach more people!

Your competition needs to involve a "like & share" component, to try to further your reach.

But focus on the things that get most attention on your Facebook, and reach out to those people with your prize. No point with a fitness related prize if they're not going to use it. And no point in an Xbox (for example) if younger guys aren't in your target audience.

Can I suggest revolving it around Christmas in July? Be it food, a night out (restaurant dinner & hotel stay) or something?

If you're willing to go up to $500 (and I realise you want to give away something you sell, but you can't have everything!), look to giving away a night or 2 in a hotel? Make it a chain that has 1 in each state. Everyone loves the idea of a night away, whether they can afford it or not! And appeals to most age groups and both genders.

Thanks very much for the feedback Spackbace. Our primary audience tends to be young women 20-35. You're right about needing to engage more (and boost posts). I like your idea about revolving it around Christmas in July! That's a great way to differentiate the competition. A night away would be appealing to the masses, but I think I'd prefer to offer something that can be found on our website. That way it helps reinforce what we are about.

      • Yeah that's fair enough.

Careful of offering wine (I noticed you sell it), then you have to deal with age etc.

What about the whole dinner table setting. Not sure if you offer everything needed, but could be the whole plate set, cutlery, wine glasses, napkins, a nice Dusk candle for the middle, etc…? Hell you could even throw in a roasting tray lol

        • Yeah, Wine could cause a problem, and tastes are quite subjective. The dinner table setting idea is a good one but that is a lot of work, haha. It might be a good one for down the track.

  • Keep in mind facebook has rules against comps etc. Its actually against facebook policy to do "tagging" competitions.

Yeah, I can't make it an entry requirement to tag or share, however I think I can come up with a way to encourage it.

Apple Watch or iPad might be within your price range.
Fitbit would be ok, but if you're targeting women probably Alta or Charge HR, not Blaze
Gift pack from a nice cosmetics/beauty brand
    GHD

    • Yeah, GHD is not a bad idea. Many women may already have one but they may tag a friend who doesn't. Ghd Straightener Serene Pearl Styler is pretty popular right now according to Google Assortment. Ok, so I think I might have a prize for the Womens competition, and I think I'll do a separate competition for the guys. What is a product that would appeal to you guys? Is this where the Blaze should make an appearance?

  • OzBargainers' choice of competition prize — PayPal fund directly into their account so they can spend it on whatever they want in the next eBay sale.

It doesn't sound as good in marketing / PR material ("we are giving away $200 PayPal fund!" Vs "we are giving away the latest Fit Bit!") However that's what most people here want…

    • $200 VISA card works nicely for marketing though.
