How to Get Access to Chinese TV in Australia?

Hi Ozbargainer, first post here. My parents will be coming here to visit me for a month. As I am working and they don't speak English fluently, they will be staying at home most of the time while waiting for me to go home and bring them around. I am thinking of subscribing to chinese tv channel as my parents normally watch chinese tv such as Hunan, Zhejiang and Jiangsu. I have checked on TVB Anywhere but it seems that I have to get into 12 month contracts with them which is way too long as my parents will only be here for a month and I myself don't watch much chinese TV. Can anyone help me getting a one month chinese TV channel here in Australia?

Thank you for the help.

  • do any of the channels stream like say ABCs iView?

  • Tvpad4 just google to find a provider, you can resell when you are done

  • Hi MustacheFire, can you explain to me how does tv pad work? Do I need to subscribe and pay monthly fee? Do I need to connect to internet to stream the tv channel? Thank you for your help

    • TVPad is like a little AppleTV. You connect it to your TV and click on apps (using a remote control) and they load. You will need a pretty fast internet connection. However, I bought a TVPad a while ago, and I found that it sucked. I've got a 100Mb cable connection and the streaming was horrible. Also, because you're technically pirating the streams, you will find that one day an app will work, the next day it might not work. You'll also, most likely, experience some drop outs and blackouts

Also TVPad has been having a truck load of legal problems..

    • Just the one off purchase cost - no subscription. As noted by supersaiyan apps can come and go, but you should be right for the month. My in laws have been using for years for basic channels, just need to keep getting the latest version. Regarding legality, IANAL

      • That's some interesting legal advice.

  • Get a HTPC, install Kodi, install Chinese plugins, most of them are geoblocked but a few work, in particular you can stream some Chinese satellite channels, enough to pass their time.

    • There are chinese plugins for Kodi?

      • There are plugins for everything for Kodi

  • You get a "unblock tech" box (gen 2))in hk or china, this work perfectly in here. ask the seller to configure to use in overseas
yes it work similar as "TV pad", both using internet to see live channels or many movies or recent dramas

i have both tv boxes, as from last year tv pad getting so much issues and the "unblock" box works perfectly.

    Def recommend unblock

  • I thought IPTV providers are banned in china now? That's why MaigeTV, one of the best one went down?

  • just buy smart tv with the brand tcl, then you can watch many chinese channels for free. you can go to good guys to try it or any other stores that has this tcl brand. smart tv tcl

  • check out zoptv.com, you may find it helpful.
Though it is not literally a "TV", but it comes with so many online channels, including Chinese ones.

  • How about fetch TV? You can buy a subscription to chinese or HK (Cantonese) channels.

  • Just download the apps onto iPad and android. That's what my wife and in-laws mostly use. They probably already have it on their phones. Apps like iqiy and sohu.

You can also use kantv website.

Dns4me can get around the IP restrictions for the apps if you get blocked by region.

  • YouTube should have live Chinese tv channels somewhere.
