Ducted Heating System Broke down

Hi everyone!

I have a brivis wombat 92 in my roof that seems to have given up the ghost. When turned on, it would try starting, splutter, then the lights blink. It tries to light the gas but that doesn't work. The pilot light is on though.

Guy who attended says it might be a board issue and that replacing it was a fair option.

So I'm faced with this dilemma - about $500 for repair or around $2000 for new install.

I've had to spend the long weekend freezing in the house, looking for deals on ducted heating units. I'm not very familiar with the whole hvac aspect of this house so it's been a huge learning for me. Just this morning, I found out that the gas that is piped to my apartment is natural gas, not lpg!

I can upload a video of the unit trying to turn on if anyone thinks they can help. My first choice would be to get it working than to replace it! Thanks.

I have a brivis wombat 92 in my roof

    Best to ring the RSPCA

  • Research on internet. YouTube maybe a good start.

Ask for second opinion on fix.

Get it fixed if you think is cheaper in the long run

    • These ducted heating guys' quotes are INSANE. They charge like a 100 bucks to come over and investigate whats wrong. Then charge you for the time spent doing the repair plus parts plus gst.

Honestly, I'm feeling kinda ripped off just speaking to some of them. Wish I could find someone who was decently priced and friendly to work with.

      • Yeah. It's a bit too late but there's also RACV emergency home assist. At least they maybe more trusted. Lots of rip off tradies around

  • There's a few posts on whirlpool forums that might help.
