WhatsApp Folder Missing on New Android Phone

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone might have some ideas on this.

I just bought a new phone (Sony Xperia) which is running Andoid 6 I believe. Anyway, I installed Whatsapp and want to transfer the database file from my old phone to the new one, so my old messages appear there. I plugged my old phone into my laptop and extracted the relevant file.

However, when I attach my new phone to my laptop to paste the file, there is no whatsapp directory on the phone (even though I have installed Whatsapp on the phone).

Does anyone know where the Whatsapp directory might be? Is it somehow hidden?

I can't find it on either the internal storage or the SD card I inserted.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

there is no whatsapp directory on the phone

My guess would be that it appears once you send/receive a message.

Easier way would be to go on your old phone, go to Whatsapp/Settings/Chat and click backup to Google Drive. Then it should be there on your new phone.

    • Seconded. How I transferred WhatsApp stuff from my HTC One (M8) to my new HTC 10.

      Said no one ever.

  • Root, titanium backup

  • You can just create your own folder under the name Whatsapp and paste the contents in (in local SD card/internal memory)

  • whatsApp creates the folder when you first open the app. If you create your own anyway with the correct path, it will auto-read the folder when you run it and detect a backup file.

  • Just copy and paste your Whatsapp folder into /sdcard/ along with all the other folders like Android, DCIM, Download etc. Then open whatsapp and it should be fine
