So I just received payment on paypal from eBay. As a irregular newbie seller, I can understand (though not really agree/accept!) that funds are held by Paypal for a while. However, upon checking my Paypal account, the funds won't be released until 1st Jan 1970! So now I need a time machine.

In the spirit of OzBargain, the cheapest way to be transported back to the last century is to vote LNP at the election.
There was a lot of people that entered 1970 that time travelled to 1980. That was the decade that if you can remember it then you weren't there.
Unfortunately, time traveling is impossible at this current age…I would know as I was just looking up on this coz I was bored this morning and was curious if it was at all possible, which it is but one of the methods(yes there is more than one method to time travel…unfortunately all of which cannot be done anyways and are just hypothetical scenarios that would and should theoretically work) require such materials like exotic matter….which…we cannot acquire, or don't have but can somehow get it if we discover some….
You won't need a time machine but you do need a way to communicate with your young self (aka a time portal). Tell your younger self to collect the money then invest it into PayPal + eBay + Apple shares. Then get the older you to sell everything on eBay and repeat.
The old you will be destitute and the younger you will become owner of PayPal. At that point you can instruct PayPal to do better coding and remove the time bug.
