Goulburn Trappers Bakery, best pie you'll ever have. Good coffee too.

Tip: ask for sauce after you pay and you get it for free; 20c otherwise.

Lake George look out. Look out.

  • most obvious stop is Goulburn, being 2 hrs out of Sydney.
Has a nice park near the train station and nice main street (first exit)
as cymon said, trappers bakery is good, located southern end of goulburn, easier if you take the second exit.
Before lake George there are a few wineries and cafes.
Have a gander for a rock at "hanging rock road".

  • Mittagong. Detour via Bateman's Bay.

McDonald's Sutton Forest. 3.5/5 stars on TripAdvisor, rated #5 of 7 in the area (golden reviews: try dropping your kid's burger on the ground for a free one, but apparently avoid the not-so-warm chocolate cake).

Kidding, of course, but we often end up stopping there because it's about half way. For me, the best part of the drive is going past Lake George (the big disturbingly flat bit with no water in it)… and checking out the wind turbines in the distance. If you're into that sort of thing.

    :-)

  • You got to try this buffet , mid way to Canberra http://www.zen-oasis.com/

  • Paragon cafe Goulburn scallop steak maybe also stop at Dimmeys a bizarre junk shop.
