How Long Did It Take You to Get Used to The iPhone 6?

Curious as to the experience of other OzBers.

I've had a 5/5s for the past few years, so some fairly significant muscle memory built in.
Been thinking about the 6 upgrade for a while, mainly for speed and it's just that much easier typing, plus the screen is really nice and camera is good too.

I managed to borrow one for the long weekend, and I've been pretending it's my phone this evening, but I'm finding the size is actually pretty annoying. I can't really do much one handed, you really have to stretch to get to the top icons and it doesn't sit in your hand, more kind of rests on your splayed fingers. To me this means oh oh, falls risk, and I'm already feeling some wrist strain.

I tend to do most stuff one handed on the phone because I'm usually on the go somewhere and have my other hand fishing for my wallet or holding onto something, but I'm wondering, is the leap in size something you get used to, or has anyone gone back to a 5/5S?

The reachability function is pretty crap too, way too slow I feel.

  • I was on 6 and went back to 5s. I liked the 4 size best to be honest but can't complain too much.

  • Yeh actually when I got the 5 I went back to 4S for a while but eventually loved the 5 so wondering if the same will happen now or if it's just too big!

  • Mum went from 5s to 6s plus and she is enjoying the bigger screen! But she doesn't do things with one hand (read: she types with two hands).

    • The plus is insane! I would drop that thing within a week

      • -3

Oh did I mention I also got that phone quite cheap for her? It was $1163 for 64GB, one of my proudest moments!

  • +1

Lucky for you guys, you can get the iPhone SE which has pretty much almost all the 6s features but in a 4" form.

seriously work out pros and cons and see if it's worth it if it's not you always have the option of the Iphone SE with the same internals as the iphone 6.

    the was i see it
    Pro: larger screen
Better for consumption on videos, games, pictures, web browsing

Con: hard to use one handed
    higher risk of dropping

But you can offset the con's but using a rubber case that's very gripping which does help alot thats what i had to get for my galaxy s6 edge which i almost dropping ALOT till i bought a cover.

also sounds like you used it so long one handed you cant use it two handed like they are designed for.

  • Yeh going to look at the SE. Shame the second hand market for it isn't much good at the moment, can't afford a new one!

Going to give it up to a week on the 6 and see how it goes but it really does feel pretty huge!

    • the current models sell for a princely sum second hand. They hold value quite well. I didnt notice much difference between teh 6 and 5s in terms of perforamnce and camera but unsure of the newer models.

    • Pricing is not too bad. When the 5S came out and the Aussie dollar was strong, it cost $869 or so.

With the SE, even though the Australia dollar now is pretty terrible, it costs $679 for it so it's cheaper then what you had to pay for it in the past but yea if the dollar was still strong, it will probably be sitting in the $500's range.

  • Damn. I think after a day I'm almost used to it!

  • Scratch that. Picked up the 5 again and feels like home. Harder to use two handed but that's not something I do that often. Hmm.

Wonder if the 7 will bring something between the two 4 and 4.7 inch. Is there a 4.2/4.3 inch screen phone anywhere?
