Drivers in NSW, Can I Get Your Opinion on Bus Lanes?

Hi everyone,

EDIT: ISSUE SOLVED THANKS GUYS!

Just one question regarding bus lanes.

So here is the scenario.

This occurred at about 5.40pm Friday.

The road is 3 lanes wide, with the left lane being a BUS LANE(3pm-7pm and other hours it is regular lane). I was in the middle lane. I was, more or less, 20 metres away from a sign that said BUS LANE END, so I indicated left, moved into the left lane and then proceeded to go straight to the traffic lights where it was red, and then indicate left to turn at the traffic lights.

Note: there was a left turn just before the traffic lights into a quiet street.

When I moved past the sign, I could see 3 cops in uniform; obviously there to catch offenders who go into the bus lane.
I didn't see them react when I went past, although it's possible they just had a camera or something to scan my number plate?

My question is, if I'll be fined for this?

I moved into the bus lane before it ended but it was only about 20 metres, and I believe there is a 100m limit to how far you can move into a bus lane before doing a left turn? Also, it is also possible that the distance between where I moved into the left lane and the traffic lights was slightly more than 100 metres.

Extra information if you're around the Ryde area; this was at the Victoria Rd intersection with Marsden Rd. (The Comfort Inn, if anyone is familiar)

Thanks for help everyone!

Ahh…no, I was one of the 3 cops in uniform. We were just on our way to get a coffee.

      Did you get any doughnuts?

      • Yes, it could become mandatory in NSW. It's rumoured Krispy Kreme has bid as sponsor for our football team.

          Am I being detained?

Ok, just making sure your story checks out.

Move along, nothing to see here.

There's a street like this in Neutral Bay, except the bus lane continues on straight and doesn't end.
There's a bus lane camera, and I go into the bus lane all the time to turn left at the intersection. Never got a fine, how else are you supposed to turn left?!

Here's the one I'm talking about. I imagine you'll be fine (not fined).

    • Thanks for the help! I was just unsure because they were camping just behind the sign…

      • You actually have to drive a significant distance (more than 100m) in the bus lane to actually get a fine.

As for bus lane cameras: You need to trigger TWO CONSECUTIVE cameras (located more than 100m apart) in order to get a fine.

Unless they pull you over, no fine coming. It's pretty much speeding and red lights only for 'in the mail' tickets from a camera.

    • Thanks, that's reassuring :)
