T460s current deal pricing

http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-ser…

I'm looking at the low tier model going for $1614.15

I was wondering if anyone reckons that these prices are going to be as good as they get in the near future? The sale apparently runs until Sunday the 12th.

I almost forgot to mention, I'll be able to get this on the education discount bringing it down to $1420 thereabouts.

Cheers and TIA.

  • I'm not sure of the exact difference, but TA's deal is like $650 cheaper

Same 14" FHD (TA's is touchscreen, yours isn't)
    Same i5
8GB ram on TA's instead of 4GB on yours
    1TB Hdd/16GB SSD on TA's, 128GB SSD on yours
    Both 3-cell batteries
Backlit k/b on TA's, not sure on yours
Yoga is ~1.8kg, yours is 1.36kg

Ok, so yours is more portable due to weight, however TA's deal has more features. 4GB ram vs 8GB is a huge on to start with, not to mention touchscreen vs normal. And that price difference is pretty dramatic, education discount or not!

    • Some would argue that the T-series is the real ThinkPad :)

Also T460S is 1.36kg vs. 1.8kg for the Yoga 460. Yoga does have that convertible hinge + touch screen though.

Personally I think T460S is "poor-man's X1 Carbon" although the current X1 Carbon Gen 3 clearance — $1,656.65 not that more expensive but you get a better crafted machine (QHD, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, about the same weight). Or Gen 4 with Full HD & 128GB SSD but a bit lighter (1.18kg).

      • I actually bought the SO the 4th gen carbon just a couple of days ago. Hasn't arrived yet.

In my case, it's still expandability and ports that are stoking my fire for something like the T460s.

I'm also particularly leaning on just a FHD screen to maximise battery life. Truthfully, if it wasn't for scaling, I'd be using 800x600 on a small screen. Hahaha

    • Thanks, @spackbace. Yep. I saw that deal…. and it's certainly mighty tempting… but I'm one of those that have my heart set on a T-series. Rep mostly, but also ports and expandability. In fact, that's why I'm itching for the base model. RAM and SSD are easily replaceable down the line.

But thanks for bringing it up, mate.
