soap on hoses (if ur testing hoses) works, if it bubbles there is a leak!
thats dumb!
Just to clarify. . Natural gas? Or you actually mean o2 which can't be smelt?
Natural humble gas from a gas cooker
The type you may require is an "induction sensor" unit…..not really accurate, but a fair indicator of methane (CH4), which is natural gas.
Ebay's got a million of 'em under $100…here's an example of one:

These are a yes/no for the presence of the gas, with an onboard alarm, which is triggered before the explosive level is reached.
If you want to gauge the level accurately with a pellistor type sensor, a readout and an alarm, you will be looking at $1500 (min) before installation, per sensing point.
If you trying to find a leak, Soapy water is all you need. Just spray It on your pipe and watch for bubbles.
If the smell Is before the meter call APA/gas network, they will class It and get It repaired.
Unless your a plumber I cant see why you need one.
small pilot light will do the job.
btw, how often is it leaking that you require alarm? our natural gas has that smell added
