    It will be HOT.

Yeah, Sony has been having some heat issues. It's what put me off from upgrading to the Z3+, which has the same Snapdragon 810 CPU (same heat issues), but is >$100 cheaper than this and comes with 3GB RAM.
I currently have a Z1, which is now finally stable (after several factory resets, and having to do a bootloader unlock to be able to flash with a clean "Sony" ROM of the latest version). For most of the time I have owned this phone, it was unstable (suspect overheating, as it happened constantly while using the camera), and Sony was not interested in helping (overseas model, just like the one in this deal).

      • Just jumped on the Z3+ (20CLICK) deal the other day for the wife.
There'll be no gaming or 4k recording for her.
Just wanted another Sony after both of using the Z1 for 2 years, which has been superb.
        That's why I jumped on the Z3+ for $377, so cheap !

She's upgrading because the Z1 got stuck on full vibrate once and she tried to open it up….with a screw driver….crack !
Never been the same since, forgot to tell her about the non-removable battery :(

Shame you had issues with your Z1.
Mine did slow down after a ROM upgrade, then settled back on the next release.
Can't rememebr which ROMs but it's still fine now.

I'll see how the Z3+ goes and maybe get that too at some stage…..

        • sony is the best

Agreed. It gets hot if you play intensive games, record 4K video, run nandroid backups etc. But for my mate who wanted a compact phone with a good camera and excellent OS, water/dust resistance etc, it's perfect. I still prefer the Z3 & Z3 Compact, Snapdragon 801>810, but that can get warm too depending on tasks.

      In your pants?

  • With the heat issues, all the small frame phones by Sony have always been hot. I had a Z1 compact, Z3 compact (which freakin' shattered at the back due to heat), but I'm tired with stretching my hand to use my Sony M5, so I'm going back to the heating brick that is the Z5 Compact….

    K/Bogan is crap

  • Can anyone recommend a good, cheap 720p phone around 5" or a bit smaller? It can be old but can't be laggy.

I'll mainly be using it to play 720p video without scaling.

    • The moto g 3rd gen I'd currently $200 on Kogan atm. Just bought one for my girlfriend and I'm pretty stoked at how good it is for the money!

Please do not buy this phone. This phone is seriously shite.

Had a problem with its performance where everything was so slow (could not even have multiple apps open at the same time, camera takes 5-10 sec to launch), phone would restart randomly and the heat issue is a joke.

Performance issue was somewhat fixed in Marshmallow, it's less laggy but my phone lags when I have my smartwatch and bluetooth earphones connected to it. Marshmallow also screwed up my Wi-Fi. If you put your phone on sleep, the Wi-Fi would disconnect and it will not turn back on until you unlock your phone. Also, Wi-Fi stops on my phone halfway through browsing the web, I have to disconnect my Wi-Fi and reconnect it to my phone to get it to work again. My 29 bucks Nokia Windows Phone is so much smoother than this junk.

I've been using Sony phones since Xperia Arc and I really loved my Z3 (water damaged) and Z3 Compact (sold it for Z5 Compact), but Z5 series have really let me down and I'm moving onto Samsung Galaxy S7 once my contract ends in October.

    • Had mine for 6 months, love it.

  • I bought a Z1 Compact on release and it's still smooth without issues :)
Sad to see the newer Compact phones have heat issues :(

    • Still using the Z1 compact myself and haven't found anything to compel me to move to a newer phone yet.

  • So expensive for a 720p phone.

  • Housemate has this phone and it's pretty good. Camera is not so good in low light but which phone is?

Have a Z1 Compact whose battery was on its last legs and almost went for the deal (if you go on eBay via Cash Rewards you get an extra 1.25% off or $475 is the total damage)

Decided against it once I've replaced the battery - not that hard at all, just need a hair dryer and a coupla guitar picks, if you're careful you can even reuse the back cover and the glue/gasket but it probably won't be waterproof anymore. The phone's good as new again and still snappy and takes great pictures. So the only advantage in getting a Z5c is (i) it's a new phone (ii) it has a fingerprint scanner (iii) it has a slightly better camera and (iv) it runs the latest Android - none of which are compelling enough for me to part with my cash given how good the Z1c is.

I've never had a phone that I'm so satisfied with, even after 2+ years

    • Did the same with the battery on my Z1 this arvo. For $20 and an hour of my time my old phone lives again. Still stoked with mine too. I was close to buying the Z3+.

  • Thanks OP.

So this has the right 4G/700Mhz band for Aus/Optus? or any other band issues?

Whats Kogan (eBay) like in regards to faulty/warranty issues?
