In the late 90's I lived and worked at the North Star pub in West Hampstead (London). I had broken up with my girlfriend and was pretty upset. so for nearly 4 weeks I consumed nothing but Guinness (copious amounts) and crisps. interestingly I suffered no ill effects from that diet.

  • There must be some sort of soft stout sale. I am pretty sure Coopers Extra Stout has dropped. It is $57.99 now, cheaper than anyone else, and I'm sure a couple of days ago it was just over $60. I think.

always Guinness deals at the start of winter…I always wait til its under $60 then bamm.

      under $55?

      BAAAAAMMMMMM BAAAAAAMMMMM!!!

  • comes up as $54.9 for me.

    • maybe a members deal , ru logged in?

would still be a front page deal at $55, anything under $60 is a great price

Might be regional. I'm seeing $54.90. In Brisbane.

          @Forrest Gump:

My first deal posted (I think) was this - $50. 2 years back though :(:
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/157735

        • @Mobe1969: being brewed in UK thank the AUD I reckon

        • @Forrest Gump:

Yeah, sadly. We had a golden period a couple of years back where the aussie dollar was historically great.

Doesn't explain why they have a $2 difference depending on where you live in Australia though :P

@Forrest Gump: Its brewed in Dublin, not the UK :/

  • I saw a few times in DM for $48ish. bought once… for the past few years, might after St Patrick's…

great price for a slab o guinness!! good find!

damnnnn, Why is Kilkenny slab still $73.99 @ DM tho!! It's currently going for $60 @ First Choice!

    • That's my preference too, and Caffreys but it's still $75.

  • Somehow Guinness taste different here compared to Asia. Prefer the Asia ones. Used to live 5kms from a Guinness factory.

  • They scan at $59.95 (shelf price) in Canberra. I cant access the DM website at work so I had to assume this is an online only deal? as nothing in the title and description.

The checkout lady was nice enough to mark it down to $52.95. Now i wish I said it was online for less since she did no checking!

    • It was $54.99 when I bought it, but I see now it's gone back up to $59.90!

      • Yeah you are right. That is pathetic. They probably just dropped it to try shift some old stock, and once they moved enough they bumped it.

Sneaky XXXXXXs though. In the beers email yesterday they showed it, but didn't list a price, unlike all the other beers in the newsletter. Eg they had:
"Coopers Extra Stout 375mL Stubbies $57.90 per case
Guinness Draught 440mL Cans See your lowest price"
And everything else was priced. Pretty scummy.

Whilst this indeed is a good price for Guinness Draught, I still prefer Southwark Old Stout. $56.99 for 24 375ml stubbies. Great tasting stout and good value. Standard Drinks 2.2 Alcohol Volume 7.4% so go easy on em' lads. Made in South Australia.

    • 7.4%… holy moly

Thanks for the tip, I'm a fan of stout, but I haven't heard of this local

Oh yeah it is my favourite domestic beer. It leaves any form of Guinness you can get here for dead in my opinion. And most of the local stouts I've tried. I wish I could buy it instore in Brisbane but at least I can get it shipped. You have to let it warm up though to get the best of the taste. Straight out of the fridge it isn't as grand.

Last years Little Creatures Return of the Dread was very impressive too. And of course Dan Murphy dumped their excess stock in May or so when it wen't past best by date rather than clearing it out (and I was waiting for it too). It isn't like a dark beer at over 7% goes off a year after bottling. Little Creatures has a winter stout this year, but it is pretty watery from word and reviews I've seen. To me it seems to plague stouts and porters under 5% or even 6%, they just taste too "thin" to me. It isn't the alcohol kick I like (hell, I'd take Start Trek Synthohol replacing the alcohol and just drink beer all day), but every stout with low alcohol just tastes too watery. Like I'd get the same effect taking a bottle of Southwark and adding 150ml of filtered water to it.

I wish DM did more stout deals, especially in winter months. Hell, even after the winter months when they have excess stock they want to shift, they still don't clear them out. Just like that Return of the Dread those b##tards dumped it.

Give it a go. You won't look back. ;)

  • i'm absent minded, oops.

Yesterday, checked DM online was 54.99, then rushed to the store after work. Grabbed 1 pack from the shelf and cashier showed 59.9. Paid $5 more, shame to be a ozbarginer. damn it.

However, the taste is unbeaten and smoothness. No regret.
