I'd already started installing the Galaxy client before I bothered to check, and yep, sure enough I already have the game on GOG. Feels like I'm missing out some how :(
I can't remember but I hope I got it for free!
You can check your order history throught the client and presumably through your gog account page too.
Did a search of my email and found the receipt, bought it on special for $2 a couple years ago. Boooo!
On the bright side the search also turned up an old steam key that I'd forgotten and never activated :)
Looks good but graphics look out dated.
System Shock 2 was released on August 11, 1999, so it's quite reasonable that the graphics look out-dated
There are plenty of mods to make it look prettier. It's one of the best games ever made.
Question is can you use a modded version throught GOG galaxy? Do you have an links for mods I could try?
Yeah, you can mod the GOG version no problem.
Here is a guide:

Basically, install SS2 Tool, then take your pick of mods. Here is a list of recommended mods which make the game prettier but don't change the fundamental game too much: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4447.0
Here is what it can look like:
@MissKitty: Wow thats a heck of alot better loking than expected. When I first got it I found the graphics underwhelming but it was sooo immersive anyway it didn't matter.
It's 17 years old.
Gog = Good Old Games
Not anymore it just stands for gog as of 2012
I still like jvs mum and she's out dated
The graphics are no good because she's a robot
Well my install of the Galaxy client seems to have locked up at the final stage. The green bar is full and it's saying 'Finishing Installation…' but it doesn't seem as though it's ever going to actually finish.
thanks.
uninstalled.
great classic, everyone should play it if youre into sci fi horror
That game scared the shit outta me back then
One of the best games ever released on PC, definitely in my top 10 list of all time.
One of the best games ever
I missed out on this one. Heard good things about it, bought it in 2000 but never got around to playing it.
Now I'm wishing for a remake/remaster with better textures.
there's mods to upgrade the graphics, but a remake would be awesome :)
System Shock 3 is in the works though…
It's pretty good with some of the texture mods, takes the edge off the age.
The original System Shock is being remade though, I'm excited because that was a little too dated of an interface for me to get into. Absolutely loved SS2 though, tied with Bioshock for top spot in my books.
Does the gameplay hold up? Because it was about 16 years ago. The graphics can be fixed with mods, but the gameplay…?
I liked SS1. That was on DOS though.. 94 I think. I'll definitely look into the remake.
I wanted to get this game but the the GOG Galaxy client and its install file take 500MB of hard disk space and a requires a minimum of Windows 7. That's a lot of trouble for my old gaming boxes.
Great deal though wish I didn't need to install their beta client software.
Can't you claim it on a newer PC, then install it on the old ones? You don't need Galaxy to run it.
Is GOG Galaxy a form of DRM? Do you have to have the client open to play it?
No it's just a convenient way of downloading and playing the games. All the GOG games are completely DRM free.
Is this still available? I can't see it anywhere…
I believe it was only available for 48 hours. I'll mark it as expired.
Ah, oh well. Thanks.
:)
Some of you probably would have got the game from gog's previous giveaway.
I started downloading the client when I realise I have the game already
