Canned air

I am thinking of buying one of these - but at over $200 it is a fair outlay

Just wondering if anyone has used one??

It produces an incredible blast of air at over 400 km/h

It can clean your computer and blow out the gutters 😁

Wow, the advertising talks about kids getting high off canned air - so buy our product instead.

    • They get high from the chemicals mixed into the canned air….

  • Seems incredibly expensive considering you can get a light duty compressor with a 36l tank for $160:

Of course, it won't fit in your pocket ;-)
I am deeply suspicious that they don't list and specifications other than 400km/h+, making it impossible to compare to traditional compressors.

    • I agree it does seem very expensive for what it is - I already have a 2.5hp air compressor in the garage, but I'm not running the air hose into the house to muck around on the PC etc.

This is portable and can run continuously for 15 minutes. It can also be held on any angle and won't freeze PC parts like canned air can.

I'd like one of these but the price tag is putting me off.

      • They don't really look very sturdy in the picture, and the 500 recharge figure doesn't inspire much confidence.

  • It also can be recharged too.

  • I remember reading a teardown of the first gen Canless air device, turns out that they are just using rechargeable NIMH batteries to power the thing.

Which mean that it lacked power and it also suffered from a low number of discharge cycles.

I think they've done the same again with this unit because some Amazon reviewers noted it lacks power.

Let's say that this has 500 recharge cycles. for $200 dollars, I don't think the return on investment is good enough, I'd much rather continue buying cans of compressed air for several reasons:

    1. cans of compressed air don't require power, and so not require any charging. If you left the canless air in a drawer for long periods of time, you also lose battery capacity
    2. Compressed air is pretty quiet. Canless air sounds like a leaf blower.
    3. It blows harder

If you really want to avoid buying compressed air, I'd stick with a 2.5hp air compressor.

    • But also note that an air compressor may contain oil in the air which isn't ideal for electronics.

      • I've used my cheap Bunnings-spec GMC air compressor, which has gotta be 10 years old by now, on almost every dust-gathering electrical device I (and others) own - laptops, PCs (inc GPU/CPU and PSU fans) my plasma TV, amps, etc and have never once had an issue (and it's a really shitty compressor!)

You can also get in-line traps for oil/moisture (as desirable for use when using for paint) if this is a concern.

        • Yep, it's just more of a precaution for people deciding to use it for electronics cleaning. Mine has a constant in line oiler for air tools.

      • Yeah you need to fit in a oil water trap or separator

  • So, any suggestions of canned air, very cheap ones, but safe to clean pcb, electronics, inside Nas, etc?

  • I remember reading about the Datavac on Whirlpool. Feedback was positive. Its larger than this & more powerful because it runs off mains power. Its still hand-held.
