Flights to Bali in September

I'm taking my family to Bali in September (school holidays), but have noticed the flights are getting a bit expensive.

Does anyone have any idea, or opinion whether the flights might drop in price before this time? Maybe they will bring in more flights since the current batch is almost full?

Or should I just bite the bullet and get them now?

  • Indonesia AirAsia has axed its flights from MEL to DPS from 1 September.

It's possible one of the other airlines will put on an extra flight but it would probably be a smaller aircraft (i.e. single-aisle A320 or 737 instead of AirAsia's twin-aisle A330) and I doubt it will mean much cheaper fares for the September holidays.

To save money it may be cheaper if you fly MEL-ADL and then go ADL-DPS on tigerair? Or it may be economical to do a similar thing via PER or DRW. AirAsia Indonesia is still flying to PER and DRW.

School holiday fares generally do not go on sale. Especially not fares to a holiday destination like Bali.

I think the risk that prices will go up is much greater than the risk that the prices will go down after today.

  • Some great idea's there…thanks.

    • Looks like Tigerair ADL to DPS is $139 on 19th September (on sale) and you could come back for $180 between 26 September and 1 October.

Maybe you can even do a road trip to Adelaide? Remember also that Jetstar is now flying thrice-weekly Avalon to ADL so that might be an option too.

SA school holidays are different to VIC, which probably explains why it seems a lot cheaper.

    • So did you end up booking anything yet? Would be interesting to know what you decide.
