Xbox One Elite Controller Customisability

Gday dudes

this is really a Q for ppl who own the elite controller.

My right arm is kinda shitty with tendonitis (im a typist) so i need a controller that i can customise and shift as much to the left hand as possible. I have heard the elite controller has some remapping ability and such, but i wondered if anyone could let me know how much and whether or not there's any way to shift the right analog stick or its movements to any other place on the controller? Failing that, can all the other buttons be shifted to the left somewhere?

There are some ppl that sell one handed controllers for disabled ppl but they are insanely expensive (at least double elite price) and also kinda shoddy work so those aren't ideal, so im hoping the elite might be okay?

Thanks all
Cheers

    Elite controller owner here.

It's not widely advertised but any Xbox One controller can be customised via the Xbox Accessories app (icon looks like a thumbstick). Downloadable on your console or via Windows 10 Store, firmware update may be required for your controller. This feature was released at the same time the Elite controller was released, you get less options when customising the buttons for a standard controller.

Try the app for yourself, you should be able to move X/Y/A/B over to the D-pad on a standard controller.

You can shift the RS button press on the Elite to map to another button. You can swap RS with LS but I wasn't able to shift RS movement to the D-pad.

Benefits of customising an Elite controller over a standard one:

    • You can store 2 customised profiles on the Elite, there's a physical switch below the Xbox button which lets you swap on-the-fly between the two profiles saved on the controller.

    • There's an additional 4 buttons underneath the controller available to you via removeable paddles, 2 on each side of the controller. I use my middle/ring fingers for them, pro gamers use their ring/little fingers as their index/middle are on the bumpers and triggers. Most people have a learning curve when using paddles for the first time due to frequent accidental button presses since those fingers had previously been idle and only used for gripping the controller. You can fully customise the paddles and map them to any button, if you want you can make all 4 of them a RT button.

    • The app lets you change the left/right thumbsticks response to one of 5 preset profiles (default, delay, aggressive, instant, smooth) which alters the way the thumbstick reacts to the amount of force you use on them. I couldn't find a way to create/change these profiles, you can only go with the app pre-defined options.

    • There are two rapid-fire switches underneath the controller which shortens the actuation distance for quicker LT and RT button presses, I turn it on for PvP which supposedly makes a difference in TTKs.

    • You can customise LT and RT buttons on the Elite controller, I wasn't able to on my standard controllers.

    • Thank you so much for that thorough analysis - i really appreciate it ! It might be worth getting for me even to shift a couple of buttons over to the right with those paddle things. The more buttons on the left, the better for me. I think i'll have a look for deals on this later on today.. just one question - what's TTK?? :)

      Thanks again !

And, yes, i had no idea the customisable controller app thing was there now so i'll have a look at that too, cheers !

Glad to be of assistance if you find the info helpful.

TTK = time to kill, most people usually refer to this as game-specific factors such as the amount of health/armour you have and damage-per-second of the in-game weapons. It also includes player-specific factors like your internet connection (latency to server) as well as your own reaction time. Quick-fire triggers supposedly shaves a few milliseconds off your response time, it can help compensate for players with bad internet connections and high latency. Personally I don't notice any difference but I use the triggers anyway for PvP.

I'd keep an eye on Mighty Ape's website who usually sell it online for $170 + delivery. Currently out of stock but the website says they'll get more stock on Tuesday.

The reason it's out of stock is because it recently got OzBargained due to the current 20% off eBay sale. I'd also keep an eye on their eBay page, if their main website stock is replenished this week, the eBay offer may also be re-stocked and you could grab it for 20% off before the eBay offer expires on 10 June.

        • Just wanted to say thanks again for this ! I did just as you recommended and waiting for Mightyape to get stock and it was on ebay today so i snapped one up early for about $143 - bargain! Thanks man ! :)

    • i guess it kinda depends on the game, see, say a game like Forza, u could easily have break and accelerate and steerling on left hand, meaning u wouldnt need ur right hand at all.. a game like fallout or halo though, u would need to keep some movement and a couple of buttons on the right hand still.. so yeah it depends.. i think it might be worth getting for me tho.. cheers again

Funny you mention Forza and Halo, those games automatically added controller profiles to the app without my knowledge.

I just noticed the standard controller doesn't let you create any profiles. You can only use one button configuration at any time and you'd have to keep going back in to the app to change that configuration.

On the Elite, you can create up to 256 profiles in the app and assign two at a time on to the controller, changing between them anytime in-game with the switch below the Xbox button. You could save a Forza and Halo config and easily swap between them without having to keep re-launching the config app.
