I've been looking at getting a body thermometer and stumbled across a crowdfunded one called Kinsa Smart Thermometer, which plugs into the 3.5mm jack of your smartphone.

Reviews seem legit and Amazon currently has a $2-off coupon, which brings it down to US $23 ($17+$6 shipping to my local Amazon Locker). HOWEVER, if you happen to have other items in your cart like myself, shipping will only add $1.

If buying make sure your smartphone is compatible. For iPhones it's 4S and above.

Remember to use Giving Assistant.

  • what's the point of this? I mean beyond just having a normal thermometer

    • App-enabled thermometer automatically tracks fever, symptoms and more for each family member, to share with your doctor

I am a doctor mate and think this is pointless

        • Its good to show times and temps of your kids, so the doctors dont miss anything. Guess if you think its pointless, thats your thoughts, but with sick kids this would be better then writing in a book

@asa79: I agree that measuring temps is a great idea, but really plugging into your phone to save you writing a single number?

        • @womble: I'm sure that this is just the start, it wont take long till products like these automatically upload into ehealth system so Doctor can see before you even enter his room. Using iPhone that already has internet access makes that easier

Think of savings in pens/paper lol

But it plugs into your iphone !!!

      • Its using a method many manufacturers have been using for a while, Paypal also use the headphone jack in iPhones

        • And for some, in the bagpipes.

Kinda Smart Thermometer US $23 (AU $32) Delivered from Amazon

    So it's not completely smart?

At least it's an honest listing!

    • Kinda Smart

I think the OP needs some Kinda good spectacles, or Kinda smaller fingers. It's actually Kinsa Smart Thermometer.

      • Just how smart can a thermometer be anyways?
After all, it's just a thermocouple, the phone OS takes care of the interface.
It's the app that has the smarts, but why only IOSap?
        The largest market is Androidy.
What about those of us with Win 10 phones?
Oh that's right we don't get sucked into this type of techno crap

      • The "Innovative" BS usually hits the Apple segment of the market first. Full of Gimmicks for gimmicky users who buy into their marketing. :)

        • Get a virus and a virus and your health data is compromised.

        • @chyawala: Get a virus so that you have a reason to use this kinda smart thermometer? Almost defeats the word "smart" in all its context.

    • Sorry, autocorrect wins again.

I guess it could be good for all day monitoring of rectal temperatures. It could posts stats automatically on Facebook. I think I will wait for the next gen model which will be bluetooth so I don't get asked embarrasing questions about the chord.

  • Realistically for sick kids those forehead non-touch ones are much better, instant readings.

This is like an old fashioned typewriter with an inbuilt scanner.

I thought this was a good deal for a kid-friendly thermometer with vouched accuracy and few points of failure (no batteries, led display etc), but each to their own I guess.
