    • Agree with you :)
      Microsoft should give up now.

        Indeed, the market is lost

not really doing favours for those who adopted early. Is Apple the only brand that will maintain a decent resale value?
    Great deal nevertheless.

    • +1

and the fact that Microsoft has downsized the Mobile division so it probably bring prices down further

    • Apple has spent more than 6 billions so you to think Apple is awesome. That is wht apple products keep their price for a good time period.

    flagship of the sinking fleet.

NOT local stock. Unique Mobiles are only dropship.

"Direct Ship From Blue Rabbit HK"

Plus 12 months warranty only.. Not 24 months as required by the government for true local stock.

Cannot really compare local to grey stock for these prices

    • HN is doing the 950 for $696 atm…that's quite a difference.

      • +2

Yeah. Depends if you want to wear the risk for the $200 difference. I know how much of an issue it was to buy from Kogan and find out that the default language was in Korean and getting warranty required the customer to pay for postage vs going to any one of the 200 HN stores in Australia.

    • They do have the option of purchasing and extra 12 months warranty from them, but the way they handled my order I doubt I'd buy from them again

    • The title of that article is misleading. WP has 1% of new sales not 1% of the existing market. It has 3-4% of the existing market. Have a look at the comments below the article. Still not much though :-)

I would snap it if it is the XL version.

  • Lol 4k on a phone. Impressive though

    • +2

Pretty much every flagship for the last 2 years has had 4K.

      • +2

wow my g4 has 4k. never used it and the size of the video is scary

  • +5

The original price was delusional but I'm still unsure this is a 'good deal' for anyone but Microsoft diehards. It's less than $100 off the Nexus 6P which has comparable specs, and isn't running an OS that is tanking and even Microsoft admits isn't a priority for at least another year.

I bought this phone on plan from Optus in Feb and had to return it earlier this week because of some problem with Optus network. It is really good phone with easy interface.

Iris scanner was annoying so I disabled it, battery backup was keep getting better with every update and since there OS update in Apr, battery use to last a day at least with moderate use. (my iPhone 6 plus battery last 1.5 day)

It is light phone and body doesn't feel cheap as most reviews suggests.

Right now I am with Telstra and using S7 edge - good phone but would prefer 950xl

Hope my message might be helpful to someone looking to buy one.

  • Cheap for what it is. If/when it reaches sub-$400 and I might consider it as a muck around device.

    • It is a very good price for what phone specs are but as mention before Windows Phone are dead and only cover a small market.

Compare this phone with any other flagship and you will notice that lack of apps is the major problem.

  • wp is dead

  • Can't this act as a PC? Any first hand reviews?

    • Yes. This phone act similar to PC but not exactly lile a PC. You have to options to use as PC - wireless (Ms dongle) or wired (MS Dock)

When you connect, it looks exactly like Windows 10 but not all applications are universal, meaning one same app cannot run on both mobile as well as desktop.

It is good feature but needs developers to change mobile apps to universal app.

Mocrosoft Office is universal app and when I use to open a document with around 300-400 pictures, MS handset never use to freeze or hang.

      • Any other apps apart from office ? I can't see developers rushing to develop universal apps for these are the only 2 phones that can use them ? That's like 0.01% of the market ?

Its called Continuum, it can be activated via wirelessly or via wired dock.
In general, your phone can ACT like a PC, giving you 'Desktoplike' experience, which basically means, apps that are Continuum ready will look like the PC if opened on the monitor and look like the Phone if opened on the phone. Only some apps are Continuum ready, basically all the Windows 10 native MS apps are Continuum ready, and there are some 3rd party ones that work.
Also, to clear a misconception. Just because an app is a UWP and on the PC AND phone, it does not mean it is Continuum ready. There is a list of Continuum ready app list under this post.

      Wirelessly:
For wireless continuum, you need to have a TV/Monitor to have Miracast functionality to be active or you can buy a miracast dongle (MS wants you to buy there one for like $80 or something). However, there are limitations to wireless. I've played around with wireless my Sony Bravia's miracast, there is a significant amount of input lag (Like 0.25s), any the resolution set to the TV is limited to 30fps 1080p or 60fps 720p. The resolution can't be changed, it has to be dependant on your TV. So I ended up concluding that wireless continuum only works when you're trying to show pictures or slideshows.

      Wired:
For wired Continuum, you need to buy a hub or dock with hdmi connector or displayport, if your monitor has DVI, you can convert the DVI to a hdmi/display port, but VGA will not work at all. Depending on the dock you buy, you can connect USB drives, keyboards, mice etc. (Ethernet support coming soon). But once wired, transition is smooth and instant. Think of it as a lagless ASUS Padfone(If any remember that). If you have a Bluetooth keyboard, you don't need a dongle to connect, you can just connect to your phone directly.

One thing to note is that because the phone uses an AMOLED screen which is prone to burn in, the phone does not let you keep the screen on for more than 5 min. Which means, if you watch a video, it will time out on you. For Continuum, your phone has to be ON(Screen I mean), which means burn in, but just get an app or a picture displaying a black screen (Since it uses AMOLED screen, black screen pretty much means screen off). But because of this, presenting in powerpoint makes it weird, you have to at least touch the screen once every 5 min.

If you want to be productive using excel, powerpoint, onenote or word, then its ok. But if you want extra power to code and junk, then it won't work (Unless you use Remote desktop or Azure (Azure coming soon in future update apparently)).
There are many updates coming to mobile soon which enhances Continuum, for starters, XBone controller support, beaming into a computer(Continuum in a separate window on your computer similar to remote desktop except phone is connected to your computer), touch screen monitor support and Ethernet support (From the top of my head anyway). So Continuum will get better "Soon"^TM"

All in all, it is a fun gimmick, but buying a decent dock is kinda pricey. And the I have currently (The MS display dock) has to be plugged to a power point at all times (It works with a power bank though). But I'm pretty sure that display dock is meant to stay at a table. There's new products coming soon where you can buy a dummy laptop which is literally there for the purpose of Continuum.

TLDR: Buy it and see for yourself, you might like it, you might not. But you will get disappointed and will be like me, just waiting for future updates. The phone is alright though.

  • $450 shipped from Android Enjoyed
    https://www.android-enjoyed.com/microsoft-lumia-950-32gb-4g-…
    $542 for the XL

As always be mindful of the differences when buying from a grey importer, I've bought 3 phones from Android Enjoyed in the past without any problems.

    • They charge stupid amount of money for a fee when you try to pay by card, though.

      • $4:50?
You can get a $10 discount for signing up.

The return flight to Canada to pick them up ruins the deal.

  • Nice phone but problem is its a HK supplier - so no warranty (that is if you even get the phone at all!)

Why is it that these phones are way cheaper in the North America's?

  • Nice phone and decent price, but windows platform still a big let down. After using windows phone for few years (820, 1020, 640XL), I finally gave up and switched to Android. Most major apps are either not available or buggy and they take forever to update.
But I kinda miss the Cortana feature though, one of the best assistant on the market.
