2013/2014 Honda Civic Hybrid Review

Hello everyone. We are going to try having a look at a Honda Civic Hybrid this weekend. It is a used car with 12000kms on it and they are selling it for $21000++. Does anyone have any experience with this model? Is it cheap to run and maintain? Does hybrid car really uses less fuel or are they tricks to minimize fuel usage? Thanks heaps!

  • Hybrid cars use less fuel mostly on city streets or speeds lower than 70-80km/h. Almost the same with a conventional otherwise(still slightly better). Quite frankly 21k for a 3 year old hybrid car is too much especially the civic hybrid is a mediocre hybrid car at best

    • Thanks.

  • it will have better fuel economy but you are paying a higher price to start with so probably negates the saving.

check insurance costs and remember battery only has a 7 year warranty life so you are half way with the battery life.

how many KMs a year do you do?

    • I reckon we are now using 20 to 30k per year. But this is going to be my husband's car to take to work. He's using public transport at the moment. We are in northern suburb and he works in Docklands. Will do that. Thanks!

      • we had a 2010 honda civic, fuel was pretty good (we did not have hybrid).
nice car to drive and reliable . And cheap to service.
Ours was the base model VTI and was around $22k brand new.
There is a completely new model coming out in a month or so, so I think the shape you are looking at will drop in price (old shape).
if you are after a hybrids it seems toyota prius are around the same as what you are looking at.

  • Hybrid or not, I would never pay $21k for a 3 year old Honda Civic. I would use the money to get a brand new non Hybrid hatchback.

    • Would it make any difference if its Honda Civic sedan? We are thinking of negotiating though.

  • To be honest I would either wait a few months for the current shape Civics to drop in price or rather buy a newer civic with less kilometers as 120,000 in 2-3 years seems a lot and with an asking price of $21,000, I wouldn't get it personally as it's just not worth the price especially since it's hybrid you could be experienceing some high maintenance costs in the coming years. Just IMO.
