Ads with autoplay Audio/Video on OzBargain

I use uBlock Origin but Whitelist OzBargain to help support the site, however I have my limits of what I'm willing to tolerate and Autoplay is one such thing that crosses the line.

I don't know if this is a deliberate site action or one that "slipped through the cracks".

What I don't appreciate is doing my own thing on another website with OzBargain open in another tab and then suddenly I hear The Good Guys jingle.

    You can opt out of Ozbargain ads. There is a dropdown in your profile.

      I think the point he is trying to make is that he wants to support OzB, but auto play video ads are the last straw.

      Hell, if he wanted to block them, he can just use his ad blocker.

    I also don't like autoplay.

    It is embarrassing to suddenly hear a news reporter speak out of a blue when you were just merely browsing (privately) on a mobile phone, particularly when you're in the train or any public transport.

    That crosses the line. It is intrusive. I hope it won't be long before they will be legislatively banned.

    Auto-play video ads from The Good Guys?! Who would have thunk?! A bit hard to figure out which agency is doing that as OzBargain's display inventories are sold at open auction at Google AdX. However if you want to show ads on OzBargain and do not want video or graphics ads,

    • Go to your settings page
    • Change ads to Text ads only

    You still get some ads, but only the text-only ads from AdSense.

      I have it set to Text/Image ads, that should not mean Audio/Video. Audio sets a bad image for the site for those without an Ad blocker and should be off by default

    So I'm still getting these audio/video The Good Guys ads. Is this official policy of OzBargain or not?

      Haven't I already explained that the ads are on open auction at Google Ad Exchange? Do you think we actually go to The Good Guys and ask them to put an auto play video ads there? The official policy is "displaying anything that Google wants to display there" however we also give you the option to do text ads only or no ads at all.

        OK thanks for the confirmation. Most websites get the option to override particular forms of advertising or particular ads, but I guess you've chosen not to do that. Hopefully you don't resort to popups/popunders and Malware advertising too.

    I just got another The Good Guys ad video ad even though I'm set to "Text Ads only"
