Coles Reloadable MasterCard Initial Purchase with Credit Card

Hi all,
I understand you can purchase a Coles reloadable MasterCard of up to $1000 value using your credit card. Does anyone know if this counts as a cash advance or not?
I know the purchase of the card wouldn't be a CA, but what about the initial loading of $1000 done at the same time? What if the card purchase was free, instead of the usual $10?

Anyone have experience with this?

Edit: as per comment below, initial load is $100 for reloadable card, or $1000 for gift card. The question regarding the cash advance status of this remains though.

  • The FAQ says the initial loading for the reloadable version is up to $100. After that you can top-up your card using a debit card or via direct credit:

    • Ah, my mistake. Thank you for pointing that out. The question remains though, regarding the cash advance whether it's $100 for the reloadable, or $1000 for the single use?

        It's a good question. But I can't answer it ;)

Another interesting factor is that the FAQ says you can upgrade the single use to the reloadable.

        • Ah, that is an interesting point! Thanks for the info :)

      • correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought that doing such a thing is simply not allowed by the banks? that is, attempting to load funds using a credit card = decline? debit card works. heck, i even succeeded topping up my funds using another coles prepaid card to see if it can be done.

EDIT: nothing explicitly stated in the PDS either: http://financialservices.coles.com.au/~/media/financial-serv…

        • Yeah this is why I'm interested. It seems like it should be counted as a cash advance, but I'm trying to work out if it is.

          @therog1:

how about doing this to test it:

          1. using your credit card, top up the coles reloadable card.
          2. then with funds you have just loaded, use your coles card to make a bpay payment to pay off the credit card.
          3. check your bank statement and see if comes up as a cash advance or not.

you answer your own question and it doesn't cost a cent. sorry it's been years since i last had a credit card, but that's correct yeah?

        • @firstworldproblems: That's my plan B ;)
I was just hoping the collective wisdom of Ozbargain could save me the time. Just waiting for my ANZ frequent flyer to arrive and then I'll test.

        • @firstworldproblems:
Step 2 may be not practical as coles reloadable credit card does not allow bpay.

    • I have the Reloadable card and it only lets you load with debit card not cc.

      • I think the OP was wondering just about the initial load that's done as part of the card purchase. Subsequent loads are debit only as you say.

  • Having own this card for over 8 months now. I cannot say how bad reputation Cole Reload card Indue company is. It is like all the bank is black listing this company.

I am just so surprise how many ppl here still trying to apply for this card and use. Indue is class as fraud by most bank I tried now. Probably soon I will completely stop using it.
