Dear ozbargainers,

I am looking for a cheap but also good third party and green slip for my toyota yaris 2002. Any recommendations?

UPDATE

Thinking of going with bingle or coles any thoughts on their claim issues?
Or should I get NRMA with road side assist?

GREEEN SLIP (ALL AROUND $880)
1) AMI
2) ALLIANZ
3) GIO
4) NRMA
5) QBE

  • CTP: http://www.greenslips.nsw.gov.au/ or http://www.greenslips.com.au
they compare all sellers in the market.

for insurance try: coles, bingle, progressive online, plus whatever anyone else suggests

  • there isnt much choice in the CTP field, there is a difference in coverage though

    RE: insurance
as with most things in life, you get what you pay for (in the bare bones of it)
    so hedge yourself accordingly
changing your excess = lower cost initial cost but obviously higher excess

if price is your only thing, the budget insurers (budget direct/coles end of the scale) will win out every time
the other "Premium" places offer extras which may or may not appeal to you

you will find the cheaper end of the scale are cheap but when you come time to claim… be ready for a fight is the general consensus
dont take my word for it but check the interwebs for claims stories (just like everything on the interwebs, take things with grain of salt, trolls and sock puppets are everywhere)

interwebs can tell you want to look out for but bottom line is you need to get the quotes and compare yourself…

    • I want middle ground insurance. Any company suggestions?

      • seems like you have your mind set on Bingle vs AAMI
the middle is what you are willing to forgo…what i might find acceptable you may not
        http://www.canstar.com.au/car-insurance/

just some generic information with any insurer
be prepared to re quote and possibly leave after a year…i used to think company loyalty was rewarded…rather the opposite seems true now days
the "lazy" tax is rife in all insurance…especially car

you will find price matching only works for like for like companies
        budget (coles/bingle/etc…) vs premium (NRMA/GIO/SUNCORP/AAMI/etc)

so AAMI will not price match with bingle for instance
keep this in mind when preparing to switch

  • With general insurance the devil is in the detail. Often the cheaper ones have market payout with a raft of exceptions and higher excesses, also they don't often touch higher powered vehicles etc. At the end of the day you do get what you pay for.

    • is that the same with bingle?

      • Havent used them before but I believe they're also a budget insurer so yeah id say so.

I went with QBE last year, they were cheapest for me as I had all my points on my license and no at fault accidents. I think they ask you it in the quote when you apply. It was about 540 or so, the others were in the 800s

  • My CTP Greenslip in NSW had gone up from $602 to $724. That was the cheapest when I compared through https://www.maa.nsw.gov.au/
Nothing changed except the car is 1 year older than last year. I have full no claim discount and have a clean driving record. My comprehensive is half of the green slip cost. Is the rising cost of CTP greenslip in NSW unavoidable? aAy recommendation from OZbargainers.
    Thanks in advance.
