Why EB Games & JB Hi-Fi Don't Have Official Sealed PS4 Games ?

Back in the day any PlayStation games used to be factory sealed with a PlayStation strip.

Nowadays ps4 games from ebgames and jbhifi don't have that seal anymore. It just has the standard shrink wrap. In fact u can shrink wrap this urself at home same way.

I used to think this is normal, but when I went to Europe I noticed the ps4 games over there still have the PlayStation strip seal!

Anyone know why? I am very suspicious because once I saw jbhifi store staff manually shrink wrapping games and putting loose discs into boxes, they forgot the door open and was able to witness.

keeping the discs separate from the covers are a common lost prevention method.

They sell the wrapping to fund their tinfoil hat obsessions.

There's surely better ways at preventing theft?
How about displaying cards that you take to the desk to collect your game? I'm surprised DVDs, BluRays, CDs and such aren't done this way too.

U can't steal from these stores because they put empty boxes on display anyway. I still can't figure out why they remove the original PlayStation strip seal. When in Europe and US they don't remove them. In a way Ur not really buying brand new in Australia since the seal is broken

      • cd's arent empty

So they can sell used games as new.

This needs more upvotes. Selling opened/gutted games as "new" is a terrible practice and needs to be stopped.

they also retardedly do the opposite and sell new games as pre owned O_o

  • Theft prevention.

  • It's because they take the discs out and put them in the drawer for security. It's common practice across most stores that don't employ security/locked cases.
Printing slips instead of putting the real thing out there costs more. Believe it or not, people still occasionally steal the empty case too.

  • I've noticed that the shrink wrap is a higher grade than most stores use, but Sony doesn't use the official logo strip anymore in Australia for PS4, I liked that.
Xbox still have the sticky line down the spine so if that;s broken you know the case has been opened.

    • So Ur saying Sony stopped the official logo strip only in Australia and NZ? It makes no sense though because all other countries still have that strip.

For legal reasons the strip has to be there, because for example in USA u can sue if Ur sold something old as new which is why Sony always have that strip in places like US.

Really a shame here because there is no real way in Ozzie to tell if Ur being sold new or used. We r stuck with home made shrink wrap

I'm suspicious of ebgames and jbhifi as there are alot of reports of them repackaging, I have seen them do it with my own eyes shrink wrapping boxes. I could be wrong of course as this might be a Sony decision

      • I'm not sure of Sonys actual decision, but I can definitely confirm that I've seen games come fresh out of a box delivered direct from Sony and they didn't have the strip on them.

Curious to know if this was a business decision that saved them money or not though. As for the logo strip, they don't need that for legal reasons, they can wrap in the same wrap that is used for DVDs, etc and it's ok.

A good way to tell is usually the factory sealed shrink wrapped boxes will only be able to be pulled apart from the edge, most store based shrink wrap machines have more give.

EBGames and JB are well known for 'gutting' games to store in drawers or resealing games. I think JB might actually shrinkwrap over the top of existing shrinkwrap sometimes though.

But yes, definitely seen games without logo strip direct from Sony, only ever since PS4 though. I still prefer Xbox method so you can see if the seal has been tampered with or not :)

        • U r right I wish they kept some form of seal, thanks for confirming that boxes direct from Sony didn't have the seal. This clarifies my concerns.

        • @Bargaingeek: I've opened two games this morning, both PSVita and one was from the US and the other from UK. Neither had the Sony seal. I don't think it's a thing anywhere now.
