Don't forget to ask if they want to buy aa bag of Starburst for only $2.
They did it to me every time.
Slip in a "Do you have a fuel discount voucher?" & you're on the Shinkansen to Senior Management…
Sigh, when I hear places like Coles, bunnings conducting group interviews, it make me sad.
Soon these places will require degree's!
Not really. Group interviews are a good way to weed out poor matches without investing in 1 on 1 time. This is the main function of a group interview - to get rid of the hopeless inarticulate and smelly candidates.
Group interviews also favor only certain personalities.
We're talking about a job a 12 year could do, surely you would be able to find people who have lots of experience already.
I always thought group interviews were referred to as Kumite…
Personalities that suit being friendly to complete strangers. If you're too introverted, they likely don't want you to be greeting a customer (not like servo attendants are the friendliest people…!)
It also gets rid of people who are overqualified for such roles and get bored too easily with the job. Personally I'd be a poor match for this role as I'd go bored out of my (profanity) mind being a Coles Express Clerk. Don't know how the Uni students studying for their PhD's do it..
As pointed out in the other comments, they are looking for, bright, cheerful people who don't rock the boat. Think of something happy to say when you intro yourself, answer questions in such a way that makes customers happy where it doesn't cost the business dollars. If there is a difficult situation state you would check policy or ask a supervisor (I.e. Not too much initiative that might show you would do your own thing instead of following Corp policy).
If they ask stuff like future plans, say something like you are looking for consistent work for several years until x (kid finishes school, you finish Uni, whatever) no point saying it is your dream career, just make it clear you will be a steady employee long enough to be worth employing.Group interviews can take different formats. I went to a Woolworths one many years ago and we were put into groups and had to answer questions, do activities and present. One common task is the survival item task, where you are given a survival scenario and have to rank the best items. This is testing how you work and communicate in a group setting.
I had another wierd interview, where the company basically just presented information about a role. I was waiting for an "interview" portion but this never happened. I'm only assuming, but I think the people who asked lots of questions about the role requirements where chosen. So I would suggest thinking about a few questions to ask about the role, a three sentence intro and one sentence about why you want the role. The only other things I would suggest is greeting people and making sure you are a little early. Definitely do not want to be late…
Thank you all
Anymore ideas , expeiriences to share ?
I've heard of group interviews but I've never been to one so I can only speculate about the best strategies.
My personal advice is to have a positive attitude. Attempt to stick out from the crowd without looking like you are trying to stick out from the crowd. I have no idea how to do this but I think it will get you noticed in the right way.
Good luck, let us konw how the interview was structured and how you felt afterwards.
Well interview went well.
Thank you everyone.
Introduce yourself to others.
Why you interested in the position.
How to up sell a product.
What is the priorities when it come to a given scenario ( few to choose from ).It was easy.
Shell V-Power is 98 octane, and ask the customer for their flybuys card every time.
Congratulations, you're the newest member of Coles Express.
