  • So are these irons or steamers?

    • +1

It's a steam iron. Putting steam generator in their name is a bit confusing. The steam generator is for the iron only

      • Thanks for that. It did confuse me. So not like those Panasonic steamers advertised here often?

        • Sorry I'm not familiar with them. I have a Phillips steam iron and for non ironing jobs I have a dedicated Sauber machine. I believe this has a removal tank unlike my Phillips. Seems like a handy feature

I've never really researched irons. Is this like the Dyson of ironers or why is it so expensive? Is it worth it?

    • I don't know about this model exactly, but Tefal is a good iron brand and "Steam Generators" are pretty damn amazing compared to a run of the mill regular iron. You'd think its all BS, but they actually work just that much better. They are smoother and get creases out MUCH faster than just a hot plate iron. I think the better ones have better "steam flow/volume per min". They are heavy but they actually may just make ironing almost enjoyable.

I invested in one of these a couple of years ago, but have been underwhelmed.

I iron business shirts for every day of the week, and take ironing seriously but also enjoy it to a degree. So I thought I'd indulge and upgrade to one of these bad boys.

All in all, I was underwhelmed with the upgrade. Sure, it does the trick and gets all the creases out like most irons do. But, it doesn't seem to offer any advantage over the normal iron I used before it.

In fact, if anything it produces too much steam and leaves a wet patch under the shirt on the ironing board which I need to spend time drying out between shirts. Also, it occasionally spits out onto my shirts a brown rust-like residue which stains the shirts, which might be due to my using tap water to fill it (the built in talc filter doesn't seem to prevent this). These things never happened to me me using a normal iron.

Also, note that the unit is large and requires quite some storage space.

In my experience, the upgrade wasn't worth it and I'd recommend sticking to a normal iron. But get a decent normal iron – Braun or some such.

I've had the exact same experience.

The Dyson of ironers is called Laurastar.

This is more like an Electrolux of ironers.

    • Its the apple of irons

  • I bought one of these from Costco for about, $250 last year.

(not clear if it's the exact same model)

It is a great iron and I can not fault it.

I use the stream function to often "steam clean" suits, jumpers etc.

Would highly recommend at the $250 price point and even more so at this price.

Definitely a huge step up from the $100 irons I've used in the past.

I have never iron my shirts in my life, but this deal is very tempting! Damn you Ozb!

  • After using a wireless iron, I don't think I can ever go back to a wired one. But then again, you do get better performance on a wired iron, I guess

  • Swear by this unit. Cuts ironing time and gives an amazing press. Highly recommended at this price.

  • Or you can buy this model from Harvey Norman and it has $50 cashback so $178.

    • I can't find it on HN's website — sure they are selling this model?

      • Sorry I meant a different model when I said this model, the GV6770http://www.harveynorman.com.au/tefal-effectis-compact-steam-gen.html?CAWELAID=720013240000139726&gclid=CNLolbuC-cwCFQoQvQod78sFRQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

I ironed a shirt once, 0/10, would not do again.

Or $100 cashback on this one, GV7556, which is $279 at Bing Lee https://www.binglee.com.au/tefal-gv7556-express-easy-control…

  • I had a Tefal steam iron some 10 years ago. Recommended by the GG sales at that time. Not know what its reliability $50 seems to be a good prices to pay for 5 years of extended warranty.
It turns out to be the great purchase decision I ever made.
The iron started out ok, but after about 20 months the iron ws splitting out yellowish water instead of steam. Got it repaired but it starts leaking a few months later. It was eventually replaced under the extended warranty.
After another 2 replaced with the same brand, and developed faults in the following years, the insurance company finally asked us if they can replace it with a different brand. Went back to the GG stores which we bought the bloody iron, the sales now said they have seen too many of fault Tefal steam iron and recommend me to go with Philips. They offered me a basic Philips model but I paid extra to get a mid range model
I now have the Philips for 4-5 years and it is still going ok.

These steam generators work so well with business shirts.

With a normal iron, you would have to routinely spray your shirts with water then use the iron to get stubborn creases out. Using a steam generator iron for the past 6 months, I haven't needed to spray water to get creases out - this saves more time than you would think, especially when you iron 4/5 shirts at a time.

  • +1

How is this compare to GC8642 philips

    • i would like to know also…

  • Philips one (GC8635) is also great but mine died just after 2 years. So I was looking for replacement and found this one. Iron with steam station is amazing if you regularly ironing your work shirts and suits.

    • Thanks,

I have the GC8642 atm and it's still going, but I wanted to get one of these as a gift.

Guess I will give this a try.

A bunch of reviews here & here in spanish and italian. some bad reviews but one is about a 2nd hand one.

  • There are so many different models of these. Is there much difference? Is it worth paying extra $15 for this model compared to goodguys someone posted for $179 with cash back.

  • +3

Thank you, I got one. I wanted to buy a new PC, I taught myself out of it but I got this instead…. how old and sad am I???

    • i feel ya, im in the same boat.

  • Tefal steam generators are great - good quality and still made in France

They currently have a $50-100 cashback offer but I'm not sure if this model is included

I recently bought a Tefal GV8962 (has a bit more grunt than this model) from The Good Guys to replace an existing steam generator that was tripping the RCD. I got it down to $330 which I thought was a good price and with the cashback it's effectively $230

Myer currently have this model for $699 - which is kind of silly as TGG sticker price is under $400

  • more popular than this deal!?

I think I prefer my $10 braun regular iron to paying $200 for this

  • OK, I know this deal is expired.
Please make a note of this Iron.

I have run this iron for the last 1.5 years.
I got it on a deal from OZB.
No regrets, No issues or problems.

Its the best investment you can ever make.
Your ironing time will be cut in time by 2/3. Plus its more fun to iron now (yes I know how is ironing fun. OK, less tiresome)

    Its a brilliant product.

All I can say, buy one or something similar.
If you get if for a good price its a bargain.

Dont hesitate, you already missed out on this one now.

  • +1

This one isn't eligible for cash back, but the GV7635 is. This model is being run out I think?

  • Wow, used this for the first time today - I can't believe I've been using a crappy normal iron for so long.

    • How was the packaging of the box look like? I received mine on Friday but no seal on box and also no plastic covers on actual machine.

      • Iron box was shrink wrapped. No plastic covers on the machine

        • Ok. I think it's all same. Thank you

Anyway, the iron is amazing and working much better than my previous Philips Iron (GC8635). I am so happy. :)
