Was looking for a new DAC to run my DT770s through and came across this on sale. Pretty good price domestically (I think, can't find anything cheaper) and apparently it's quite a good DAC at this price range.

I'm too looking for a good dac/amp to power 770 pro's from last Amazon.uk deal, any recommendations in this price range or less? The newer version at analogue seduction is on preorder, don't know how long it will take to be in stock
Aune T1 (tube), or Schiit Magni/Modi combo
you mean like this one? https://www.massdrop.com/buy/aune-t1-se-headphone-amp
Schiit combo is a bit much.
Have been tempted by the SMSL M3, but unsure about the chinese brand/quality
Newer model for 160 delivered
Cheers!
Thanks!
Would using Astro mixamp with optical function similar to this?
Damn, I got the 1.2 one like 2 months ago
What's the fail rate for these
Considering getting a mate to bring it back from the USA.
It's 99 use on Amazon so about 138-139
But obvious issue is warranty
Forgive my ignorance, why would you use these? Why not just plug them into the computer the normal way? Is it purely a quality of sound thing?
If you want a batter DAC (converts digital data to analogue) and/or better amp (amplifies the analogue signal) than inbuilt soundcard.
So yes, usually to improve sound quality from poor inbuilt sound output.
I bought a DAC to power my 250ohms DT770 PRO but I only bought something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Silver-MUSE-DA20-PCM2706-MINI-USB… for 30 odd dollars
DAC to power my 250ohms
FYI, it is the amp section of your combined DAC/amp that is powering the headphones, not the DAC. The DAC section is merely converting the signal.
Is this website reliable? There is a warning for counterfeit on Audioquest website.
I've got a tracking number, they seem to have a physical store in Melbourne too. Aside from that, not too sure.
I can highly recommend Noisy Motel with numerous purchases from them in the past 2 years. Billy will be driving a new car with my spending there.
Top service and good prices while spending in Australia. Any questions, I've always got good advice and prompt, honest answers from Billy via email.

I've had one of these for about 9months. I got it because of the rave reviews with WhatHiFi. I don't regret it. But, you will not be transformed into another dimension though. It is OK I suppose for the money. A slight improvement to a stock PC output. Slightly clearer, slightly less muddy.
I also have the flagship Marantz amp with a special headphone output with Dolby Headphone, etc. The Marantz utterly destroys this. So much more air and clarity. Difference is night and day with that comparison. It also cost a magnitude more, and then some, so not a fair comparison. The Marantz uses ~100watts even in just headphone mode however, so this little Dragonfly still has a purpose.
The Dragonfly is also limited to 24/96. Also on another note, isn't it against Paypal's terms of service for the business to charge the customer extra?
I've got a audio technica ATH-AD700 connected up to my PCs front headphone output. Sounds pretty good to me, but then again I've never used a headphone DAC/amp before. Just wondering how much of an improvement I should expect if I go with the dragonfly black.
It depends on your motherboard/soundcard. (I have an Intel Extreme board) In just my experience, it was an improvement, so that is something, but just not by a large amount.
What is the model of your marantz may i ask?
The Black and Red new models are out. V1.5
Got the black for $153 via Analogue Seduction (UK). The new models are much more mobile phone friendly
