20% off promo code does not apply to Advance, Wellness, Comfortis, Cat health and wellbeing, dog clean up and odour control and cat grooming products.

    • already mentioned

      • having said that, i just purchased an item from "odour control" which was 20% off and I got a further 20% off with the code!!

        ENJOY!

      • +5

        not boldly though ;p

      • +1

        already mentioned

        after your edit, yes…

  • I just tried purchasing the ADVANCE DENTAL LARGE GIANT BREED CHICKEN DOG FOOD - 15KG

    Was $133.52 (save $26.70) $106.82 W
    after code $85.46!!

    • Last time, they had a 30% Advance special that stacked for ~$72. :)

    • +5

Advance and Hill's Science Diet are not the best foods there are for dogs, with lots of fillers.
There are better foods that are similarly priced
      Just my 0.02

      • +2

Yeah, they are relativity trash, if you;re spending that money, best put to something with good contents. This site is an awesome resource - http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/
I purchased a few things on the special two weeks ago, due to freight stuff up I only just got it, but I will be returning it all as I just purchased Wellness and Black Hawk instead.

        • +3

          That is an excellent resource

          For the record

Mars owns Pedigree, Whiskas, Schmackos, Advance, Chum, My Dog, Optimum and Royal Canin

Nestle owns Purina, Fancy feast, Pro Plan, Lucky Dog, Petlife, Supercoat, Beneful, Ruffs and Totalcare

Procter and Gamble owns Eukanaba, and Iams

Colgate Palmolive owns Hill's Science diet

and between these companies there is not one decent dog or cat foot unfortunately. But clever marketing ensures that they control a lion share of the petfood market.

And its not like most of these products are cheap. There are better products at the same price point

        • @docians:
Any products that are at supermarkets that isn't one of those bad ones?

I've been buying bad ones and I had no idea!

        • +1

          Very useful link, thanks.

        • @Kanasuke:

like Snuke said Applaws is available at supermarkets

Most petshops do stock the good ones like Ivory Coat, Canidae, Meals for Mutts, Earthborn Holistic, Black hawk etc but the displays wont be as prominent as the ones of the big companies

          see the full list here

I love these deals for cat litter. Trying to lug four 15 KG bags up the stairs, no thanks. Sorry delivery guy :(

  • +1

We looked at this last time. They upped the price of Science Diet dog food prior to the sale, ended up being more expensive with the 20% off.

  • How are these guys with delivery?
The usual guys I shop with take two business days reliably

    • They use couriers, so pretty quick if you have a delivery address that is always attended.

    • I ordered 2 days ago - still says processing (does that mean packing?) in store. Meantime my dog is getting hungry for Mydog.

    • Takes a full week to go from one side of brisbane to the other the last few times I have ordered from them

  • cheers for heads up on code.

i was pondering a couple items yesterday that had 20% off [finishing yesterday according to my last email] but as they wanted almost $20 shipping i gave it a miss.
today they're still 20% off plus the code gave me a further 20% off and the free shipping.

p.s one of the items was Wellness Core

    • Just done same - 20% + 20% + free delivery should stock me up till the next code with free delivery. All Wellness Core too.

Has anyone used petcircle before? I was going to get a bag of Royal Canin for $108 from Petbarn but petcircle have it for $98

    • +1

don't buy it yet.. i am about to post a new deal for Royal Canin

      • oops sorry. the code i had from petcircle is no longer valid. $98 is definitely a great price!

    • I use Petcircle all the time - I usually buy Earthborn Holistic dog food which ends up being cheaper than some competitors. They are quick and I would highly recommend them to most people :)

    • +1

Have a read on Royal Canin, it is not very good, lots of filler - http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry-dog-food/royal-canin/
For that price, there are many better brands.

      • That's a completely different bag and the reviewer even says in the comments:

puppy formulas are often formulated better but can be more expensive accordingly

        • Good pickup, I would still prefer to use a brand that is good across the board. I returning my order from 2 weeks ago and replacing with Black Hawk and Wellness puppy food.

        • @snuke: hows your experience with wellness pup food?

        • Royal canin puppy food has dehydrated poultry meat, rice, animal fats, vegetable protein isolate*, maize, beet pulp, maize flour as the main ingredients

maize= corn, and it is split into maize and maize flour
          poultry - which one?
and what on earth is veggy protein isolate

Canidae puppy food has Chicken, menhaden fish meal, lentils, peas, potatoes, dried whole egg as the main ingredients- and no fillers

          both priced similarly
one backed by a large multinational

the other by an independent company

I know which one I will feed my pup

        • @stockastics:

I have none. I had my puppy for 10 days. So far been on Optimum which I just found out is pretty crap. That's what I'm returning.

        • @snuke: optimum is complete crap. I have ordered the wellness complete for puppy. Rated 4.5 star in dogfoodadvisor website. Apart from perfoodreview, dogfoodadvisor is good for American brands.

        • @stockastics:

I couldn't decide so got both Black Hawk Lamb And Rice Puppy Food - 20kg as the relatively cheaper option (still 4 star) & Wellness Large Breed Puppy Food - 13.6kg. This way I can give both separately or combine together.
I also got cans of Wellness Just For Puppy Food 354g & Wellness Core Puppy Food 354g.

        • @snuke: I use black hawk for dry..was researching the wet food options as our pup likes both dry and wet..we were using paws fresh available in Coles for wet. It's polish, but not sure if it was balanced. Another very good brand is Artemis..

        • +2

          @snuke:

Just be wary snuke that when you switch from one puppy brand of kibble eg Wellness to another eg Black hawk, your puppys digestive tract might not be able to handle that change and it may end up with diarrhoea

they usually recommend a gradual transition from one type to another

If you combine the two it should be less of an issue after the initial period

        • @docians:

If you combine the two it should be less of an issue after the initial period

          That's the plan.

    • +1

I've purchased from petcircle a few times now, generally when i see a petbarn sale i check petcircle and find their prices are cheaper than petbarn's 20% off price.

  • Thanks OP …

  • Time for more bedding, i guess
    Cheers op
Edit: whow, they just increase the price of
BREEDERS CHOICE LITTER 30 LITRES from $16 to $20? Such a dicky move

    • Thats their normal price. Based on my purchases from Petbarn for the past year. They sometimes have 2 for $18 each however i'll admit ive never seen it at $16 per bag! I normally stock up heavily when these codes are avaliable.

  • So what dry food should I buy my 8 month old puppy? I've no idea..

    • +1

any of the brands listed in this link are good
      http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry-dog-food/puppy-foods/

they include Canidae, Ivory Coat, Meals for Pups (personally I did not like the smell of this one), Earthborn holistic, Holistic Select and Applaws (applaws is available in supermarkets)

If they are not available at your local pet store, they are available online at petcircle and mypetwarehouse
Petcircle usually delivers free if you order over $100 and my petwarehouse for over $50
delivery is within three business days

From the age of one I think it should be adult kibble
      Choose from one of these
      http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry-dog-food/best-dry-dog-f…

If you live close to a Costco and money is an issue Kirklands Signature Natures Domain is one of the better foods

And whatever you do don't listen to a vet who says Hill's Science Diet (lots of fillers) and don't fall for the gimmicks of Royal Canin (different bags for different breeds, all equally bad)

      • Any suggestions for an aging dog with joint mobility issues ?

        • You can give dogs human joint supplements, read up on it

        • @smpantsonfire: Thanks i will do that but i was wondering about what dry dogfood to give her .The vet recommended the royal canin veterinary one for joint mobility ,but i after reading the pet food reviews i am after a healthier one for her.

        • Have a look into Joint Guard for dogs. And make sure your dog is not overweight.

        • @smpantsonfire:

Lol I initially read it as you can give your dog human joints, read up about it

        • @Sheppy: Joint Guard ,ok will do & yes she was slightly overweight but thats all good now .Just have to look thru the petfood reviews & find one for a senior dog .

        • +1

          Have a look at 4Cyte - https://www.ovedshorseandpetstore.com.au/4cyte-canine-100gm-…
That price is the cheapest I have seen, I used to pay slightly higher than that.

  • just a general question, which website had best price for dog medications? The usual heart worm + intestinal. I never know so just use ebay :(

    • I get mine (Advantix and Interceptor) from Oveds https://www.ovedshorseandpetstore.com.au/ I would be interested if any other store is cheaper.

      • +1

Vetsupply.com.au..sign to their email list..they generally have 10% off codes all the time. I buy interceptor and nexgard..usually the cheapest after the 10% code and no minimum order for free shipping.

  • Just ordered Wellness Core Ocean 11.8kg bags for $95 each. Super happy as they are $149 normally and well yeah. Dogs gotta eat.

  • Do they do the 20% off prices in store as well?

    • Sometimes not but they do price match if you get the right person

  • Already 20% advanced dog food so can double up …yay!

    • +1

It is not the best food out there..

    • +2

Advance, owned by Mars, and self proclaimed super premium nutrition!
      Ingredients:
      chicken, rice (good)
      fillers: corn, corn gluten, sorghum
also has chicken digest (produced by the chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean animal tissue that has not undergone decomposition)

Why would I feed my dog some chicken tissue that is subjected to chemical or enzymatic hydrolysis. Much rather feed it human grade chicken

So with fillers like corn, corn gluten (ingredient splitting) and sorghum which are inexpensive and chicken digest, this is neither super nor premium.
      Great marketing by Mars!

      • Which food is 'better' based on the ingredients?

        • +3

          @noise 36

any food that does not have cheap fillers like corn
the makers cleverly use the other name for corn ie maize
and then split them into two ingredients eg maize, maize flour, maize gluten

any food that uses human grade protein. I would trust a food that says chicken, rather than a food that says poultry or meat. (If I want steak, I would rather it say beef rather than meat)

Lets check the ingredients on a few good ones (none of which have corn, and all of which specify which meat it is)

Applaws its all good: Chicken Meal Turkey Meal, Pea Starch, Dried Chicken, Potato, Tapioca Starch, Chicken Fat Flaxseed

Artemis fresh mix: Chicken, Chicken Meal, Turkey, Barley, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Millet, Peas, Chicken Fat Tomato Pomace, Potatoes, Duck, Salmon, Egg Product, Flaxseed- note that it does have grains, but they are barley, brown rice, oats and millets and not wheat!

Black Hawk Grain Free: Chicken Meal, Chicken, Sweet Potato, Chicken Fat , Field Peas, Tapioca Starch, Natural Flavour, Whole Linseed

Earth bound Holistic: Chicken Meal, Oatmeal, Ground Barley, Ground Brown Rice, Rye Flour, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Chicken Fat

Ivory Coat: Lamb Meal, Kangaroo Meal, Potatoes, Peas, Dried Lamb, Dried Kangaroo, Pea Fiber, Tomato Pomace, Chicken Fat Ground Flaxseed, Salmon Oil, Carrots, Sweet Potatoes, Kale, Broccoli, Spinach, Parsley, Apples, Blueberries

Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Salmon meal, sweet potatoes, peas, potatoes, canola oil, ocean fish meal, potato fiber, pea protein

Canidae All Life Stages: Chicken meal, turkey meal, lamb meal, brown rice, white rice, rice bran, peas, potatoes, oatmeal, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat millet, tomato pomace, natural flavor, flaxseed meal, ocean fish meal

Wellness Complete Health: Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Oatmeal, Ground Barley, Ground Brown Rice, Rye Flour, Tomato Pomace, Chicken Fat , Whitefish, Tomatoes, Carrots

          The complete list is here

          http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry-dog-food/best-dry-dog-f…

common between these foods is the absence of cheap fillers- no corn or wheat, and they specify what the meat is. Also none of them have any meat digest

Pricewise they are not much different to the popular brands!

          Disclaimer:
I am not associated with any pet food company or any pet food brand. Like you I love my dog and want the best for him. I just happen to read ingredients and decide what I want to feed my dog!

        • +1

          @docians:

For anyone wondering about 'meat digest', as I was - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_digest

        • +1

          @JH100:

hence I would not feed my dog any animal digest

        • @docians:

Not exactly the same but it reminds me of the time in London after 'farmers' were found to have been feeding their cattle BSE infected and rendered cattle, which gave us what is now called 'early onset Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease' - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9384548

What people will do for a profit.

      • I have had a look at the Best Dry Cat food on the website but I have a possible dilemna. Our vet has identified my cats as having some gingivitis or other teeth/gum issue from their diet and not having cleaned them (I can't believe you're honestly expected to brush a cats teeth). They recommended Advance Dental Adult Cat food. Now obviously they recommend that brand because they also happen to sell it, however it seems like the 'dental' component of it has worked and the cats aren't getting flagged as having gum/teeth issues since we've started on it a couple of months back. The vet doesn't know I'm buying the Advance Dental because I get it cheaper from Pet Barn.

Question - Which dry cat food can I buy in place of the Advance junk that will still have the alleged teeth cleaning component?

  • +3

and here just to compare are ingredients in Popular Brand foods
I've even thrown in product slogans from their official websites
