      basically no.

watch out for gift card deals (jbhifi preferablly now over DSE) that have 10% off cards. buy around amount needed for imac in gift cards. wait for 10% off. purchase.

or straight edu discount from apple store if you can't wait.

if it were a laptop or iphone then TRS for additional discount, but i don't see you taking an imac fitting in your carryon.

      • why would you downvote something that actually answers the question. i swear some people are idiots.

Thanks for the link, it might be useful for others.

In my view it is marginally better than buying a used Mac since you get at least some warranty, however, it is nowhere near refurbished products sold directly by Apple. Those come with one year warranty and look like new…

        • Thank you buddy!

If you know what you're looking for, eBay and Gumtree can also be useful if you can find one that some warranty left. Depreciation on Macs is initially quite high and then they retain their value pretty well.

Hackintosh is a very valid suggestion if you simply want a powerful machine running OSX to complete your studies. You can get a machine far more powerful than the 27" iMac for around $1000 not $3000.

That said if you are certain you need that exact model iMac edu discount on apple store is the quickest and easiest way to go. If you're willing to wait a bit you can try to buy 10% off gift card and combine them with a 10% off mac sale (DJs and Myer seems the easiest to buy).

    • Thank you! The problem is I am studying in Shillington Colleage. It is not a high school or uni. I think Apple doesn't serve my colleage.

Get a friend enrolled in an actual university to buy one for you?

But yeah, if you want a Hackintosh, numerous guides online document how to build one.

There currently exists two generations of hardware that you can buy to build a Hackintosh — Skylake and Haswell.

Haswell parts is a lot little bit cheaper and you might find it preferable as well because apparently the Skylake power management doesn't play as nicely.

    bikies?

  • Your MacBook Air isn't cutting it, so you're getting a >$3k desktop for a part-time course? I would strongly suggest that you are vastly over-estimating what you need.

You can get a very powerful Windows desktop that will run Illustrator like a dream for $1500 or less? Or if you need to stick to OSX, why not just upgrade to the more powerful MacBook Pro models and hook up an external monitor? You'd still save over $1000.

    • I am asking how to get cheap mac. I am not asking your advice or judgement from you.
