I am travelling to Adelaide on the October long week end (first time visiting) and I'm wondering where is the best place to stay, that is affordable yet easily accessible to everything. Also, what are some good sites to see and visit? Food, attractions, etc.

For things to do, see what's on at Adelaide oval, or take the tram to Glenelg, there is the Popeye boat on the Torrens. Hire a car for the day or take an organised tour to Hahndorf, the Barossa ot Mclaren Vale wine regions.
I can recommend the Ibis - stayed there in April.

I have always found the Oaks Horizons and Embassy on North Terrace are great value options located in the CBD. I also stayed at Majestic Minima in North Adelaide last year= cool quirky hotel which I got for $70/night. Adelaide is quite compact and the CBD is flat so you can walk everywhere. +1 to everything that nivag01 has recommended above.

If you want to be central, the Ibis nivag01 said is very close to everything.
Or, Miller Apartments, or Hotel Grand Chancellor are central too.
As for things to do, definitely recommend taking a car into the country side. We have really nice vineyards - especially in October, and they're reasonably close to each other too.
If you're feeling adventurous, West Beach Aerial Park, and by the time spring hits, the beach will be nice.
Maybe go Adventure Kayaking if that's your thing?
In October, you might also make it in time to catch the Adelaide Fashion Festival too if that's your thing.

Try the Ibis hotel on Grenfel st. It was built only a few years ago and is well located with mall only being 2 minutes a way.
