Hi Guys, I live in Melbourne and my girlfriend loves Opals. So far we've been buying from the stores we find in CBD but i find them too expensive, they are also very smug and generally refuse to bargain. Does anyone know which is the cheapest place one can buy authentic Opals gems and jewellery ? Either Online or from a store.

Does she want real, big, solid opals in 18ct gold? Or just the look of opals, maybe in silver or 9ct gold? The former just are expensive, like natural gems of any kind. But you can find "doublet" or "triplet" opals that are just a thin slice of opal on a special backing that makes them look thicker. Still very pretty, but won't break the bank.
Silver or 9ct gold is fine, what counts is the Opal. In terms of size, yes she prefers the big solid ones, but also the doublet/triplet is fine, it really depends on the budget on that particular time when we are buying it. The Opal stores in CBD are very overpriced as they mainly cater to tourists, is there a direct from mine seller for example or a discount opal store somewhere in australia ?
