Why do you need $10,000? Its only balloons.

For me your project seems very niche.

your project is may need lots of labor to build up a wall, also when he balloon wall expand can they support itself? And will it suitable for outdoor?

$10,000 seem to be too much.

  • +3

So the purchaser needs to inflate and construct the wall? That's something people don't have the time to do, hence the popularity of party stores.

So, you want to send balloons/balloon gas to the customer, or you're going to them with a fully constructed product?

I don't think you know what you're offering here, which is a bad idea to even attempt to get an idea off the ground!

Hell even your website doesn't list much info.

which is a bad idea to even attempt to get an idea off the ground!

That's where the balloons come in handy.

      • Oh dear, you went there :P

    Nice spam.

At least tell us what you are spruiking in your post and what you found interesting about the process without making us click through.

I don't think the total of $10,000 is a problem like some people are saying. It seems like you're selling a $35 product (4x) and a $50 product (9x) and you need $10,000 worth of orders to make it viable - order all the bits from China at a bulk discount or whatever.

I don't understand the nature of the product though. You mention a hand pump, so the balloons arrive deflated? My guess is you are selling plastic connectors that let me link them quickly? I think you should make that clear. However if that is the case, the price of the product itself seems like a lot - I can buy balloons and a balloon pump myself cheaply at the $2 shop (if I have kids, like your target market, I likely have both already) so they only unique thing you have is the links, which are presumably cheap plastic from China?

I don't think you should limit yourself to 4 'styles'. If you're actually just selling the way to connect balloons, people can create any style they want.
Similarly why are you limiting the wall to two sizes? If you're actually just selling the way to connect balloons, people can create huge walls if they want

Overall, a product that makes it easy to create a photogenic backdrops made of balloons does not seem like a bad idea in a social media world. BUT I think your product is too expensive for the DIY crowd, and too much DIY required for the willing-to-pay crowd.

Also your profile says 0 project backed and it makes me much less likely to back a product, since the creator hasn't used Kickstarter as a backer.I feel like I pick up on a fair bit just backing things - watching how often updates go out and what they say, how creators deal with setbacks and reply to comments. You want people to give you money but have never invested in anyone else?

There's the main kicker I was getting at.

      • Agreed.. $50 for what amounts to be about 50 balloons is quite expensive.

Thanks so much for the feedback. This has been very insightful.

@toniyellow you are very correct in your thinking. The whole intention was not to buy balloons but to develop a mobile app or a website that made allowed customers to create their own BalloonWall (onthefly). This must not have been clear in the proposition which is a mistake on my part.

This wasn't intended as spam, I chose the Ozbargain community because I respect this group. Lot's of smart/savvy people here.

    Cheers,
    Chris

Seriously though you are asking for 10k for a mobile app or website, that's absolutely crazy

      • Ah, I see, the balloons are shaped so you can tie them at two ends.

I was imagining something like the balloon on a stick plastics
So you have a lattice and click in the balloons quickly

This is not new then? But as a DIY person, actually looks pretty cool as a huge wall, I bet I can order some of those type of balloons on ebay…..

You're going about it the wrong way imo.

The PRODUCT is the balloon wall. You need to develop something which is unique and patent it to protect yourself such as something that allows you to easily link the balloons together. You then need to sell that product (and the balloons). But more much more than it would cost to buy the product at a party shop (you'll also need to think about wholesaling to party supply stores).

You could also sell a service where someone comes to the home and sets up the balloons for a price.

The app/website is just part of that product. People aren't going to fund the website, but they'll buy into a fun product.

  • connect balloons with bread tags. And then tape them together.

  • So you need $10,000 to stock balloons? How many are you planning on stocking at our expense? You don't really explain why you need a KickStarter backing to join some balloons together.

    Couple of points:

    1. Learn to spell or use a spell checker. Your sub-title says "cutomizable". Firstly, you spelled it incorrectly, and secondly, you are using the "z" spelling of the word which is US English, not Australian English. Where is your market?

    2. Is it "BalloonWall" or "Balloon Wall" since both are used in your text? If this is your product name, you should learn to use it properly every time you use it.
